John F. Archer

Obituary:
CALDWELL - John F. Archer, 79, of Pleasant City Route 1 died
at 8:30 a.m. Sunday (July 18) at a Cambridge hospital. He was a lifelong
resident of Noble County born Sept. 20, 1885 a son of Lester and Mary
Hall Archer.
A retired farmer, he was a member of Halley’s Ridge Grange and
Union Methodist Church near Belle Valley.
Surviving are his widow, Blanche; two sons, Paul of Caldwell
Route 6 and Clyde of Caldwell; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Belle McIlyar
of Cambridge, Mrs. Nellie Merry of Caldwell Route 5, Mrs. Hilda Yeagle
of Caldwell Route 4, and Mrs. Edith Hohman of Caldwell Route 1; 13
grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Friends may call at McVay Funeral Home here 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
p.m. today and Tuesday. Services will be held there at 1 p.m. Wednesday
with Rev. Helen Groves officiating. Burial will be in Hiramsburg Cemetery.


Virgil C. E. Brown

Obituary:

Virgil C. E. Brown, age 85, of Ava, Ohio, died Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell. He was born August 2, 1921, in Monroe County, Ohio, son of the late Chance and Cecelia Hoffer Brown. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in the European Theatre of Operations. He was employed by the former Ava Brick Company for fifteen years, the Merry Stone Quarry, and he retired as a truck driver from the Noble County Highway Department. He attended the former Clark's Chapel, and he enjoyed mowing and caring for his yard and driving his Monte Carlo and Jeep.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Gary Lee Brown, who died in 1996; one sister, Rith Ritterbeck; and four brothers, Claude, Lester, Charles, and Ralph Brown.

Surviving are his wife, Edna Mae Everly Brown, whom he married March 19, 1946; his children, Diana M. (Scott) Davis of Belle Valley, Clayton E. (Jacqueline) Brown of Ava, Carol A. (Roger) Kirkbride of Pleasant City, Joyce D. (William) Hayes of Ava, and Becky L. (Herman) Yeagle of Caldwell; one sister, Betty Hashman of Kent; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Friends may call Friday, August 3, 2007, from 1-7PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be held Saturday, August 4th at 11AM with Pastor Bob James officiating. Burial will follow at Halleys Ridge Cemetery, Ava. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.


Alonzo Freese

In 1930, Alonzo Freese (18) lived in the household of his uncle, John S. Nauer (31) at 1088 Schumacher Ave. in Akron, Summit County, Ohio. Alonzo attened school that year. He was born in Ohio, as were his parents. Living two households away were Franklin and Anna Freese; Alonzo's parents.


Lucy T. Yeagle

Banns of Marriage for Alonzo Treese and Lucy Yeagle appeared in the Zanesville (OH) Signal on August 13 1937. Banns have been published in the St. Mary's Catholic church, Fulda, for Miss
Lucy Yeagle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ignatz Yeagle, Caldwell and Alonzo Treese
(sic), son of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Treese of Akron.


The following appeared in The Zanesville (OH) signal newspaper on August 27, 1937
WEDDING DANCE
A wedding dance will be held Saturday evening in the new Fulda dance hall,
honoring Miss Lucy Yeagle and Alonzo Freeze of Akron, whose marriage will
be an event of Saturday morning.

Obituary:
Lucy T. Freese, 84, passed away Dec. 4, 1999. She was born in Fulda, Ohio, and
graduated from Caldwell High School. She then came to Akron, where she was a long-
time member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the St. Monica Guild, and the Mission Circle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo, in 1992, and is survived by
daughters, Estelle (Hugh) Cox of Zanesville, Barbara (Roger) Forte of Manchester; son,
Joseph (Sue) of North Canton; sisters, Margery Weisend of Woodsfield, Ohio, Regina
Shockling of North Braddock, Pa.; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at St. Mary Church. Interment
at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Dunn-Quigley, Ciriello &
Carr Funeral Home, 811 Grant St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The family
suggests memorials to St. Mary Church.
