Alma Singer
Pittsburgh Native Was Retired Registered Nurse
Alma Singer, Pittsburgh, died Saturday (10-23-99) in Shadyside
Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was 80. Mrs. Singer was born March 29,
1919 in Ohio to Daniel and Theresa Knapp Horan.
She was a retired registered nurse. Mrs. Singer belonged to
Sacred Heart Church, in the Shadyside area of Pittsburgh.
Surviving are: a daughter, Mary Anne Singer-Crawford, Pittsburgh;
a son, J. Daniel Singer, and three grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by her husband, John E. Singer.

Alma's father Daniel Horan's parents were Timothy Horan (b. NY or Ireland) and Honora O'Brien (b. Wales). Honora's parents were Cornelius O'Brien (b. County Cork, Ireland abt. 1820) and Honora Burke (b. County Cork, Ireland about 1820).
Named for his godfather, Edward L. Schweinberg. Retired PA State Police sergeant. Currently (2000) working for an undertaker in Greensburg, Westmoreland, Co, PA. In 2000, living in Jeanette, PA. Several children.

Theresa was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Jeannette, American Legion Post
#344 Ladies Auxiliary, Auxiliary to the Retired State Police Association of PA and the
Ukrainian Club of Jeannette. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by four
brothers, Peter, Thomas, Austin, and Martin Joyce; and a sister, Mary Cox.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Edward F. Singer; two daughters, Marie
Hutchinson and husband, Keith of Greensburg, and Joyce Morrison and husband Richard
of Hempfield Township; four sons, Edward Singer and wife Patricia of Jeannette, James
Singer and wife, Sandra, of Greensburg, John Singer of Jeannette, and Martin Singer and
wife Lisa of Ligonier; 12 grandchildren, Kelly and Michael Singer, John, Kathryn, and
Patrick Hutchinson, Megan, Anne, and R. Michael Morrison, and Zachary, James, Jennifer,
and Jacob Singer; a sister, Veronica Nelis and husband Regis, of North Versailles; two
brothers, James Joyce of Drexel Hill, Pa., and John Joyce and wife, Kathleen of Plum, and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the John V. Graziano Funeral Home Inc., 228 N. Second St.,
Jeannette, beginning Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church. Interment
will follow in St. Clair Cemetery, Hempfield Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial con-
tributions may be made to the following: Westmoreland Hospice, 532 W. Pittsburgh St. ,
Greensburg, PA 15600, Sacred Heart Church Memorial Fund or Jeannette Public Library.
In 1900, Arnold Kettering (36) owned a home at 733 Helena St. in Braddock, Allegheny Co., PA. He lived there with his wife of 13 years, Elizabeth (37) and their children Mary (11), Joseph (10), James (8), Edward (5), and Catherine (4). The oldest three children attended school. Arnold and his parents were born in Pennsylvania. Arnold was employed as a day laborer.
In 1910, the family owned a mortgaged home at 735 Helena St. in Braddock. Members of the household were the parents, Arnold (46) and Elizabeth (47), and four children: Joseph (20), James (18), Edward (15), and Catherine (13). Arnold was employed as a laborer at the steel works.
At the time of the 1920 census, the Ketterings still lived at 735 Helena St. The family consisted of Amon (55) and his wife Elizabeth (56); their unmarried son Joseph (29), adopted daughter Dorothy (13), their widowed daughter Mary Burkhart (31), and Mary's children Alfred (11), Clarence (9), Kenneth (7), Norene (3 yrs 10 mos) and Katherine (2). Arnold worked as an iron lifter at a steel mill. Joseph Kettering was a pattern maker in a wire mill.
In 1930, "Amon" and Elizabeth Kettering were still at 735 Helena St. Their widowed daughter Mary was listed as the head of the household. Amon worked as a laborer in a steel mill, as did his 19 year old grandson Clarence.
According to the 1900 and 1910 census, Elizabeth and her father were born in Pennsylvania. Her mother was from England. All five of her children were living in 1910.

In 1930, 35 year old Carl G. Bunt owned a home worth $4000 at 572 Stokes Ave. in North Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He lived there with his wife Selma (33) and son Carl Jr. (7), who attended school. Carl was employed as a laborer in a steel mill. His parents were born in Germany.

Singer, George R. "Bob"Age 80 of Champion Twp., OH, died Tuesday, February 3, 2004. He was born April 17, 1923 in North Braddock, PA, the son of George A. and Catherine Kettering Singer. He graduated from North Braddock High School and served for 3 years in the US Navy during WW II receiving the American Campaign Victory Medal and the Asiatic pacific medal with 2 stars.
His wife, Mary Madeleine (Fisher) Singer whom he married June 23, 1947, preceded him in death July 28, 1999. He is survived by 3 daughters; Donna Gilbert of Orlando, FL, Georgia Scott of Champion Twp. and Antoinette (Richard) Ives of Niles; grandfather of four and great-grandfather of one; brother of Geraldine Kirsch of Tega Cay, SC.
Funeral Mass 10 am Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, St. William Church. Friends will be received from 6-8 pm Friday at Robert H. Roberts-Clark Memorial Home and 1 half hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery, Bazetta Twp., OH.
