Louis Frigyes

At the time of the 1920 census, Louis Freda (sic) rented a home at 1129 Hamilton Ave. in Farrell, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. Living with him were his wife Julia (37) and children Lewis (11), Stephen (8), Mary (4 yrs 9 mos.), and Ellen (1 yr 5 mos.). The oldest two children attended school. A Hungarian boarder named Andrew Joper also lived with the family. According to the census, Louis was born in Hungary to Austrian parents, and Julia and her parents were natives of Austria. They came to America in 1903 (not clear). Both Louis and Julia spoke Magyar (Hungarian). Louis was employed as a laborer in a wire mill. The family lived in a neighborhood of immigrants (Poland, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Croatia and Syria).

In 1930, widower Louis Frigyes (53 years old) rented part of the dwelling at 4826 McCook Ave., East Chicago, Lake County, Indiana for $25 a month. Living with him were his children Louis (21), Mary (14), Irene (11), and John (10). All the children except Louis Jr. attended school. Louis Sr. was born in Austria, and his native language was Magyar (Hungarian). He came to America in 1905 and was not a naturalized citizen. Louis Jr. was born in Indiana, and the younger children were all natives of Pennsylvania. Louis Sr. worked as a laborer in a foundry. The family did not own a radio set.

In 1930, Louis Frigyes lived with his widowed father and younger siblings on McCook St., in East Chicago, Lake County, Indiana. He was employed as a riviter in a lead refinery.
