Jean Locker

Obituary:
Jean E. Gulling age 80, passed away Wednesday
March 23, 2005 at the Massillon community Hospital. Jean
was born December 1, 1924 in Canton to the late Joseph
and Esther (Dages) Locker. She was a 1942 graduate of
Mt. Marie Academy and married Robert L. Gulling in 1947.
They raised their family in Canton and moved to Bucyrus,
OH, in 1971. In Bucyrus she was a member of Holy Trinity
Catholic Church, and past president of the Altar Society. In
addition she was a former member of Twig #5, and the
Crawford County Homemakers.
In addition to her parents a brother, Dick Locker
preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband,
Robert L. Gulling with whom she would have shared 58
years of marriage on June 14; children and spouses, Susan
and David Harding of Massillon, Julie and Bill Brennan of
Dunedin, FL, Barbara and David Musgrave of Kettering,
OH, Timothy and Kim Gulling of Bucyrus, OH; sister, Dorothy
Mosser of Canton, OH; grandchildren, Jessica Harding, Jar-
rod Harding, Damien (Kerri) Garner, Isaac (fiancee’ Mara
Schemel) Garner, Rachel Garner, Theresa Garner, Derek
Musgrave, Meghan Musgrave, Brett Musgrave, Nicole
Gulling and Cody Gulling.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday
at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Massillon, Fr. Raymond
Paul will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
There are no calling hours. The family would
appreciate contributions to the Memorial Fund at Holy

Richard Albert Gulling

Obituary:
Richard Albert Gulling, age 73, of Louisville, passed away Monday afternoon,
July 25 [1994] in Springdale, AR, while vacationing with his family. He was born
July 2, 1921, in Akron, the son of the late Marvin and Margaret (Zwick) Gulling.
Mr. Gulling was a 1943 graduate of Notre Dame University and a charter member
of the Edward Frederick Sorin Society at Notre Dame. He was employed by the Timken
Co., for 44 years prior to his retirement in 1986 as the company’s Vice President of Finance
and Treasurer. He served at the Timken Foundation until 1992 and was a member of the
board of Director’s at the Timken Co., retiring in 1994. He was a life member of the Board
of Trustees at Walsh College, served as a charter member of the Walsh Advisory Board and
was the first recipient of Walsh College’s Distinguished Service Medal, awarded to him in 1985.
He received an honorary Doctorate in Commercial Science from Walsh College in 1993. He
served as a board member of Catholic Charities Diocese of Youngstown and was a member of
the Stark County Foundation. In addition, he was past editor of Junior Achievement of Stark
County and the Catholic Community League, and recipient of Malone College’s Distinguished
Service Award. Mr. Gulling was actively involved with St. Joseph Hospice and St. Louis
Catholic Church. He was a member of the Brookside Country Club and Quail Creek Country
Club in Naples, FL.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Metzger Gulling of the home; three daughters and sons-in-
law, Mrs. John (Sandra M.) Powers of Charleston, SC, MRs. Richard (Joyce) Moon of
Charleston, SC, and Mrs. Gary Dennis (Jennifer) Pierce of Cleveland; three sons and daughters-
in-law, Daniel L. and Nancy Gulling of Greenbay, WI, Edward A. and Colleen Gulling of Chicago,
IL., and Philip S. and Becky Gulling of Bettendorf, IA; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Mrs.
Andy (Audrey) Pederzolli of Alliance, Mrs. Jack (Marian) Egan of Carlsbad, CA, Mrs. Phil
(Monica) Scully of Cleveland, and Ms. Corine Gulling of Louisville; two brothers and sisters-in-
law, Robert and Jean Gulling of Bucyrus, OH, and Charles and Jane Gulling of North Canton;
fourteen grandchildren, Kirstin, Scott, Dana, Heather, Rachel, Maura, Bridget and Richard Logan
Gulling, Marnie Powers, Chris and Missy Pierce; and Erin, Ryan, and Katie Moon.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary A. (Schumacher) Gulling who passed away
February 8, 1991; and a sister, Vivian Gulling who passed away in 1972.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday July 30 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Louis Church
with Rev. Fr. Frederick Slaven officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Friends called
Friday at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Louisville. The family suggests memorial contributions
be sent to the St. Louis Church Building Fund.
Dick will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He wanted to share with them how
proud he was of his grandchildren and how important it was that they receive a good education.


Mary A. Schumacher

Mary Schumacher Gulling's entry in the Ohio online death certificate index states that she was born in Kentucky. This is believed to be incorrect.


Richard Albert Gulling

Helen Bailey

Helen M. Gulling's obituary appeared in The Repository (Canton, Ohio) newspaper on January 9, 2006 Helen M. Gulling, age 79 of Louisville, loving mother, grandmother
and great-grandmother, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at
her home following an extended illness. Helen was born April 14, 1926
in Vichy, MO, to the late Daniel and Lila (Moreland) Bailey. She was a
former vice president of Home Savings and Loan. Helen was a member
of St Louis Catholic Church in Louisville.
Helen is survived by her children, John B. (Janet) Metzger III, Julie A.
Egan and Jack D. Metzger; grandchildren, Jason B. (Susan) Egan, Joey
L. (Jim) Rudder, Jack D. (Stephanie) Metzger Jr. and Nicole R. Metzger;
great-grandchildren, Jake William Egan and Danika Lynn Rudder; and
her very dear sister, Lucille Lloyd.
She is preceded in death by husbands, John B. Metzer Jr., Boyd Quentin
West and Richard Albert Gulling.
In keeping with Helen’s wishes, there will be no local services. A private
interment service will be held April 14, 2006 in Macedonia Cemetery in
Vichy, MO. Her arrangements are at the direction of the Paquelet-Falk
Funeral Home of Louisville, OH. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions
may be made in Helen’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Helen wanted to share with those who knew and loved her how much
they meant to her and how happy she was spending time with her children
and grandchildren.


Simon Anthony Schumacher

Census records indicate that there were two men named Simon A. Schumacher living in eastern Ohio, both born within a year of each other. The "other" Simon Schumacher lived in Tuscarawas County and was married to a woman named Florence.

In 1930, Simon Schumacher (41) owned a farm on North Canton Maximo Road in Nimishillen Township, Stark County, Ohio. Living in the household were his wife Mary (41) and children Paul (18), Marcella (13), Harold (11), Mary (9), and Leo (7). All of the children attended school except Paul. Everyone in the household was born in Ohio, as were Mary's parents. Simon's parents were German. The family did not own a radio set. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to Orton Stanbaugh and N. J. Schumacher (37), The relationship between Simon and N.J. is not known at this time.

MARRIED 25 YEARS
Mr. and Mrs. Simon Schumacher celebrated their Silver
Wedding Anniversary Sunday October 27th at their country home.
The were the recipients of many beautiful and appropriate presents,
for which they wish to thank their relatives and friends kindly.
The evening was spent in diversified activities. The color
scheme of green and silver was carried out in detail in the various
rooms and on the tables. A chicken dinner was served at 6:00 to the
