Andrew Ranker

In 1880, 38 year old stone mason Andrew Ranker, a native of Germany, lived in Seneca Twp., with his wife Anne M. (31) and children Eva B. (8), Celia T. (7), Sophrona (4) and John (3). Anne and the children were born in Ohio. Anne's father were German, her mother was from Ohio.


Ralph Joseph Zwick

Ralph Zwick's obituary appeared in The Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on August 17, 1955 MONROE CO. MAN TAKES OWN LIFE WOODSFIELD-- Ralph Zwick, 50, of Marr, Monroe county,
apparently took his own life yesterday afternoon by shooting
himself in the heart with a shotgun, the Monroe county sheriff's
office here reported. Zwick was found by two nephews, Joe and John Zwick, 5
and 6 years old, about 200 yards from his farm home. Dr. Web-
ster, Monroe county coroner, was out-of-town for the day
and no official verdict on the cause of death has been
returned. Surviving are his widow, Olga; his father, Joseph of Marr;
three sisters, Mrs. Henry Schott of Caldwell, Mrs. Anna Hannah
of Braddock, Pa., Mrs. Paul Hoffman of Harrietsville; two
brothers, Lester and Clarence, both of near Marr. The body was removed to the Brubach funeral home in
Summerfield.

Clawence "Buss" J. Zwick

LOWER SALEM - Clawence "Buzz" J. Zwick 84, of Lower Salem, Route 2, diedyesterday morning (March 9, 19950 in Monroe County.
He was born, June 25, 1910, in Marr to Joseph and Margaret BurkhartZwick. He had lived all his life in Lower Salem, where he had been afarmer and a carpenter. He was a member of St. Henry's Catholic Church.the Holy Name Society and the Cemetery Association.

Mr. Zwick is survived by four daughters, Joan Huck and her husband, Leo,of Vincent. Elaine Kern of Waterford, Marlene Tornes and her husband.David of Waterford and Sandra Harris and her husband, Larry. of lowerSalem; seven sons, Charles Zwick end his wife, Mary. of Lower Salem. JohnZwick and his wife. Jean, of Mount Gilead. Donald Zwick and his wife,Janet, George Zwick, Joseph Zwick and his wife, Diane, Roger Zwick andhis wife Darlene, and David Zwick and his wife. Debbie. all of LowerSalem; 39 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law,Wandalee Zwick of Marietta.

He Married Juanita Camden Zwick on June 28, 1954. She died in May 1983.He also was preceded in death by one son, Patrick Zwick; onegranddaughter. Melinda Tornes; his parents; two brothers. Ralph andLester Zwick and four sisters, Laura Schott. Anna Hanna, Pearl Schott andLorene Huffman.

Funeral liturgy with Mass is 10.30 a.m. Monday at St. Henry's CatholicChurch in Harrietsville with the Rev. Victor Cinson as celebrant and theRev. David Huffman as co-celebrant. Burial is in the church cemetery.Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday at theMarietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, where vigil servicesare 8 p.m. Sunday.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Henry's Catholic Church or St.Ambrose Catholic Church Building Fund.


Juanita Elvera Camden

Miss Juanita Camden attended the annual Schott reunion on Sunday, July 30, 1933 at the fairgrounds in Marietta, Ohio. See notes of Jacob Schott for a complete list of attendees.

Obituary
Juanita E. Zwick, 70, of Route 2, Lower Salem, died
May 13, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born
March 5, 1913, in Monroe County to Everett and Iva Parks
Camden. She was a member of St. Henry's Catholic
Church and the Catholic Women's Club of Harrietsville.

She is survived by her husband, Clawrence Zwick,
and seven sons: Charles, Donald, George , Joe, Roger,
all of Route 2, Lower Salem, John of Mount Gilead, and
David at home; four daughters, Joanne Huck of Vincent,
Elaine Kearn and Marlene Tornes, both of Waterford,
and Sandra Tornes of Route 2, Marietta; one sister,
Wanda Lee Zwick of Route 2, Lower Salem; two half-
sisters, Mary Ann Arnold of Sycamore Valley and Betty
Brooker of Route 2, Marietta; 37 grandchildren and three
great grandchildren. Oneson, Patrick, preceded her in death.

Friends were received at the Estadt Funeral Home in
Caldwell. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday at St.
Henry's Catholic Church in Harrietsville with Msgr. Lawrence
Luciana and the Rev. Father Jack Holmes officiating. Burial
followed in St. Henry's Cemetery.


Paul Joseph Huffman

HARRIETTSVILLE - Mr. and Mrs. Paul Huffman
entertained with a family dinner Sunday.

and family of Burkhart, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Zwick, Joe Zwick
of Sycamore Valley, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Huffman, Ed Huffman
of Dexter City Route.

Lorene Gertrude Zwick

WEDDING BANNS
CALDWELL - First wedding banns have been
published in the St. Henry’s Catholic church for Miss
Lorena Zwick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Zwick,
and Paul Huffman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Huffman.
Both are well known members of St. Henry’s parish in
the Harriettsville community.

According to the online Ohio death certificate index, Lorene Zwick Huffman was a widow at the time of her death.


Larry Joseph Huffman

A picture of little Larry Joseph Huffman was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 29 Jan 1943, accompanied by this caption:

Larry Joseph Huffman, pictured above, is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Paul Huffman, Harriettsville, O. He will be two years old on
Lincoln’s birthday, February 12th. He likes to ride his tricycle
and go riding in the automobile. His grandparents are Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Zwick of Lower Salem Rt. 1 and Mr. and Mrs. Leo
Huffman of Dexter City Rt. 2.


David Lester Huffman

David Huffman is a Catholic priest.


Leo John Huffman

In 1910, Leo J. Huffman (27) and his wife Christina M. (24) rented a farm in Elk Twp., Noble County, Ohio, where they lived with their children Harley H. (3), Willie J. (2) and Lena C. (11 mos?). Adjacent farms in the cenus belonged to widow Martha Neiswanger and Leo's parents, Henry and Frances Huffman.

On Sept. 12, 1918, 36 year old Leo John Huffman of RFD No. 2 in Dexter City, Noble County, Ohio filled out a US military draft registration card. He gave his birthdate as Aug 6, 1882 and stated that he was a self-employed farmer. His nearest relative was Christina Singer of the same address. Leo was described as being of medium height and build, with brown eyes, black hair, and no physical disabilities.

At the time of the 1920 census, Leo J. Huffman (37) owned a mortgaged farm in Elk Twp. Living with him were his wife, Margaret C. (34) and children Harley H. (13), William J. (12), Cathy C. (?) (10), Gilbert E. (6), and Paul Joseph (4 yrs 3 mos). All of the children attended school except Paul. Leo's widowed father Henry owned the adjacent farm in the census.

In 1930, Leo J. Huffman (48) and his wife Christina M. (44) owned a farm in Elk Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Living in the household were their nine children: Harley H. (23), William J. (21), Livia M. (19), Gilbert E. (16), Paul J. (14), John L. (10), Mildred M. (7), Carl A. (4 yrs. 11 mos.), and Pauline E. (2 yrs 6 mos). Only Paul, John and Mildred attended school. The family's farm was valued at $100. The average value of farms in that area was $400. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to John D. Smith and Leo's younger brother Edward.

The following note was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder, page 24, 2 Apr 1948:
NEWS BRIEFS
HARRIETTSVILLE - Mr. and Mrs. Leo Huffman
entertained with a family chicken dinner Sunday. Those
present were Miss Nina Lee Hendershot, Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Huffman, children Mary Margaret, Bobbie, David,
and Larry, Ed Huffman, John Huffman, Carl Huffman,
and Harley Huffman.

Leo Huffman’s obituary appeared in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 10 Dec 1964:
SUMMERFIELD - Leo J. Huffman, 82, a lifelong
resident of Noble County and a retired farmer, died
at 3 a.m. Wednesday at Fairview Manor Nursing Home
in Beverly, where he had been a patient one day.
Born on Aug. 6, 1882, near Harrietsville, he was a
son of Henry and Frances Hohman Huffman.
His wife, Christine, and two sons, William and Carl,
preceded him in death.
He is survived by three sons, Gilbert of near Lewis-
ville, Paul and John, both of Harrietsville; three daughters,
Mrs. Paulene Koher of California, Mrs. Katherine Seabach
of Erie, Pa., Mrs. Mildred Kessler of Wellston; 18 grand-
children and four great-grandchildren.
The body is at Brubaugh Funeral Home here where
friends may call 2 to 7 an d7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Rosary
will be recited at the funeral home at 9 p.m. Friday.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Sat-
urday at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, Harrietsville with
Rev. Fr. Joseph Pickard officiating. Burial will be church
cemetery.


Christina Margaret Singer

A brief mention of Christina Singer Huffman was made in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 10 Mar 1949.
HARRIETTSVILLE -- Mrs. C.H. Schoeppner visted
Wednesday with Mrs. Leo Huffman of Dexter City Rt.,
who is on the sick list.

In the same column of the paper was the following note:
Dr. Ditch of Caldwell, was a professional caller
at the home of Leo Huffman Saturday.

Mrs. Cletus Henry Schoeppner, the former Stella Noll, was Christina Singer Huffman's second cousin, once removed.

Harley Henry Huffman

Harley Huffman never married. In 1930, 23 year old Harley H. Huffman lived with his parents on the family farm in Elk Twp., Noble County, Ohio. He was employed as a laborer in an oil field.

Harley never married. At the time of his death, he was a resident of Noble County, Ohio. He passed away at the Cambridge Mental Health and Development hospital in Guernsey County, Ohio. Harley was not mentioned in his father's 1964 obituary, although two other deceased sons (William and Carl) were named.


Carl Anthony Huffman

Carl Huffman worked as a laborer in the oil well drilling industry, according to his death certificate.

Carl Huffman's obituary from the Zanesville Times Recorder, page 14, 22 Jul 1952
DROWNING VICTIM RITES WEDNESDAY
Funeral services for Carl A. Huffman, 27, of near
Harriettsville, who met death by drowning Sunday evening
[20 Jul 1952], will be conducted from the St. Henry’s Cath-
olic church in Harriettsville Wednesday morning at 9
o’clock with Fr. McNicholas officiating. Burial will be in
the church cemetery.
The body is at the Brubach Funeral Home in
Summerfield and will be taken to the church Wednesday
morning at 9 o’clock.
Huffman was drowned while wading in Sunfish
creek, three miles north of Woodsfield.
Sheriff Francis L. Sulsberger, Jr. reported that
Huffman, an oil field worker, and his girl friend, neither
of whom could swim, were wading in the creek when
Huffman stepped into a nine-foot hole and disappeared.
The girl friend, Ruth Hogue of Stafford, drove
to Woodsfield and Sheriff Sulsberger accompanied her
back to the spot. The sheriff recovered the body shortly
after 7 p.m. Artificial respiration was administered for
two hours.
Surviving are his parents, Leo and Christine
Huffman, with whom he resided; three sisters, Mrs.
Kathryn Sebach of Erie, Pa.; Mrs. Mildred Kessler of
Ewington, O., and Mrs. Pauline Poleo of Hollywood,
Calif., and five brothers, Harley Huffman of the home,
William of East Sparta, Gilbert (Pete) of near Lewisville,
Paul of Harriettsville, and John of Marietta.


Jacob Long

At the time of the 1850 census, Jacob Long lived in Elk Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with his wife Elizabeth (36) and children John P. (15), Catherine (13), Jacob (9), Margaret (6), Lucy (4), and Peter (1). Everyone's birthplace is listed as Germany. This conflicts with church records, which state that the younger children were born in America. Only John attended school. Jacob's farm was valued at $250.

In 1860, 59 year old German-born farmer Jacob Long lived in Elk Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his 60 year old wife Elizabeth and five children: Lewis (12), Jacob (9), Peter (9), Margaret (8), and Elizabeth (6). All of the children were born in Ohio, and all attended school.


Elizabeth Smithberger

According to the 1850 census, Elizabeth Smithberger Lang could not read or write.


Louis Long

Louis Long is not listed by Delores Snider as one of the children of Jacob Lang/Long and Elizabeth Smithberger. He is listed in the 1860 census. Louis is called "Lucy" (female) in the 1850 census.


Peter Long

Peter Long is not listed by Delores Snider as one of the children of Jacob Lang/Long and Elizabeth Smithberger. He is listed in the 1860 census.
