Elwood Willis Pilcher

Obituary: Marietta Times . . Marietta, OH . . . July 2001 CALDWELL -- Elwood W. "Woodie" Pilcher, 75, of Salt Run Road died Monday morning (July 2, 2001) at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Zanesville.
He was born May 20, 1926, in Caldwell to Mack and Ople E. Johnson Pilcher. He was a World War II Army veteran. He received the Purple Heart. He was a self-employed painter and retired from R.C. Moore Lumber Co. He was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and St. Mary's Ushers Club, and was a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4721 at Caldwell. He is survived by his wife, Mary O. Nau Pilcher, whom he married Aug. 5, 1950; four daughters, Marsha Walters and her husband, Rusty, of Caldwell, Laura Schafer and her husband, Ed, of Senecaville, Madeline Watson and her husband, Kevin, of Caldwell and Kathleen Jamiel and her husband, Matthew, of Cambridge; two sons, Edward Pilcher and Thomas Pilcher and his wife, Judy Siddle, all of Caldwell; two brothers, Donald Pilcher and his wife, Jean, of North Canton and Larry Pilcher and his wife, Velma, of Caldwell; one sister, Marybelle DeVolld and her husband, Myron, of Caldwell; 11 grandchildren, Kevin and Kurt Watson, Kelly Pickenpaugh, Erica and Emily Pilcher, Ben, Jess and Kate Schafer, Abbey and Audrey Watson, and Woody Jamiel; three great-grandchildren, Patrick, Sara and Blake Pickenpaugh; five stepgrandchildren, Charles, Jeffrey, Jack, Gregory and John Siddle; and one stepgreat-grandson, Nathan Abbott. He was preceded in death by one son, Samuel D. Pilcher, on May 23, 1975; his parents; and one brother, Carl E. Pilcher. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Samuel Saprano officiating. Burial is in St. Marys Cemetery in Fulda with military graveside services by Caldwell VFW Post 4721 and Belle Valley American Legion Post 641. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home in Caldwell. A vigil service is at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Noble County Health Department.


Mary Ottilia Nau

CALDWELL — Mary O. Pilcher, 70, of Caldwell, died Tuesday (Dec. 25, 2001) at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 23, 1931, in Dexter City, daughter of the late William and Bertha A. (Fogle) Nau.

Mrs. Pilcher retired from Noble County Department of Job and Family Services, where she served as a case worker for Children’s Services.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fulda, where she was also a member of Catholic Women’s Club and the church choir.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood W. “Woodie” Pilcher, who died July 2, 2001.
She leaves four daughters, Mrs. Rusty (Marsha) Walters and Mrs. Kevin (Madeline) Watson, both of Caldwell, Mrs. Ed (Laura) Schafer of Senecaville and Mrs. Matthew (Kathleen) Jamiel of Cambridge; two sons, Edward and Thomas (Judy Siddle) Pilcher of Caldwell; two brothers, Howard (Ruth) Nau of Caldwell, and Robert (Mary Ann) Nau of Pleasant City; three sisters, Ramona Tornes and Rita Fulton, both of Waterford, and Patricia (Lewis) Lang of Marietta; 11 grandchildren, Kevin and Kurt Watson, Kelly Pickenpaugh, Erica and Emily Pilcher, Ben, Jess and Kate Schafer, Abbey and Audrey Watson and Woody Jamiel; three great-grandchildren, Patrick, Sara and Blake Pickenpaugh; five step-grandchildren, Charles, Jeffrey, Jack, Gregory and John Siddle; and a step-great-grandson, Nathan Abbott.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell. A Vigil service will be 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fulda, with the Rev. Fr. Samuel Saprano serving as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Noble County Health Department.


Clemence J. Archer

In 1930, Clemence J. Archer (24) and his wife Dorothy (15) lived with Dorothy's parents in Berne, Stock Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Dorothy attended school. Clemence's occupation was farmer.

Mr. and Mrs. Clem Archer were tendered a kitchen
shower recently at the home of the latter’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Lawrence Mallett, Berne. A delightful time was enjoyed
with music and games and at a seasonable hour a fine lunch-
eon was served.

Mary Anna Schott

M. Anna Schott does not appear with the rest of the family in the 1860 census.

In 1900, 41 year old widow Mary Strief (born Nov 1858) owned a mortgaged house at 117 Camp Ave., Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Mary, who was not employed, lived there with her children Henry (17), Joseph (15), Leo (13), Mary (8), Edward (7), and Regina (2). Also living in the house were her nephew, Henry Schaad (24) and a boarder, J. Coyne (52). Mary had given birth to nine children, three of whom died prior to 1900. Mary's unmarried sister, Catherine Schaad, lived next door. Spelling of married name (Strief) is not certain.

In 1910, Anna M. Struif (52) a widow owned a home at 117 Camp Ave., Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Anna, who was not employed, lived there with her children Mary (20), and Edith (14)). Mary's unmarried sister, Catherine Schaad (66), lived with her. Living at 88 Camp Ave. and shown immediately after Anna on the census sheet was Henry Struif (35) and his wife and daughter. The birth place for Anna is given as Ohio and for her parents it is given as Germany. Of Anna's nine children, only 4 were still living in 1910.

In 1920, Mary Struif (60), a widow, lived in a home that she owned at 117 Camp Ave., Braddock Borough, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Mary was not employed. Living in the home also were renters Christina and Carolina Thomas and John and Hadie Thomas. Living next door at 115 Camp Ave. was her son Henry Struif (46) and family.

Mary has not been found in the 1930 census. She may have died prior to that.


Mary Struif

In 1910, 20 year old Mary Struif lived with her widowed mother, younger sister and maiden aunt at 117 Camp Ave. in Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Mary was the only person in the household who was employed. Her occupation in the census is not legible... it might be "turner" in a "tin works."


James Casper Hohman

James C. Hohman, age 88, of Louisville, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away Monday, December 9, 2002 in St. Joseph Care Center following a recent illness. Mr. Hohman was born June 5, 1914 in Caldwell and was the son of the late Emil and Cora (Schott) Hohman. He was retired from the Boyle and midway Company following 34 years of service and a retired farmer. Mr. Hohman was an Army veteran, a member of the Stark County Farm Bureau and a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Louisville.
Mr. Hohman leaves behind two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Purdy Westover of Louisville, and Elaine and Gary Wymer of North Canton; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sharon Hohman and Dale and Karen Hohman, all of Louisville; two sisters, Edith Schramm of Zanesville, and Edna Archer of North Canton; two brothers, Charles Hohman of Canton and Herman Hohman of Caldwell; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Gertrude (Nau) Hohman, who passed away November 28, 1999; a sister, Lucy Haldebrand, and a brother, Morris Hohman.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, December 13 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Louis Catholic Church in Louisville with Msgr. Ken Miller officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Friends called Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home in Louisville. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Care Center in Louisville.


Gertrude Margaret Nau

Gertrude M. Hohman, age 77, of Louisville, loving wife, mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother, passed away Sunday, November 28, 1999, in Aultman Hospital
in Canton following a sudden illness. Gertrude was born August 6, 1922, in Caldwell,
and was the daughter of the late Raymond and Louise (Schafer) Nau. Gertrude was a
member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Louisville, an active member of the St. Ann
Altar and Rosary Society, and a former quilter at St. John Catholic Church.
Gertrude leaves behind her loving husband of 52 years, James C. Hohman whom
she wed on May 10, 1947; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Purdy Westover
of Louisville and Elaine and Gary Wymer of North Canton; two sons and daughters-in-law,
David and Sharon Hohman and Dale and Karen Hohman, all of Louisville; one sister and
brother-in-law, Marie and Walter Lisk of Canton; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard
and Gertrude Nau of Caldwell; nine grandchildren, Lori Barton, Jim Beck, Brian Wymer,
Shelly Wymer, Kelly Wymer, Matthew Hohman, Michael Hohman, Lauren Hohman
and Nicholas Hohman; and one great-grandson, Dustin Barton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 2, at 12 noon
in St. Louis Catholic Church in Louisville with Msgr. Kenneth Miller officiating. Burial
will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday 6-9 p.m. at the Paquelet-
Falk Funeral Home in Louisville. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Louis
Church Building Fund in Gertrude's name.
