Elmer E. Rohrig, age 86, of Canton, died Saturday, July 22, 2006 in Aultman Hospital. Born January 3, 1920 in Caldwell, OH to the late Walter A. and Elizabeth M. (Crock) Rohrig. He was a Canton area resident most of his life and a World War II Army veteran. Retired from the Timken Company in 1982 after 42 years of service. Member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Canton, American Legion Post #440, Holy Martyrs Knights of Columbus #4733, St. Mary's Senior Citizens Club and Altar/Rosary Society.
Preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew and James Rohrig; two sisters, Anna Mary Strubel and Irene Michel; sister-in-law, Evelyn Rohrig.
Survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary M. (Rupple) Rohrig; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Mary Ann Rohrig of Canton, Frederick and Pat Rohrig of Canton; six grandchildren and spouses, Kyle Rohrig of Cleveland, Ryan Rohrig of Cleveland, Eric and Mary Rohrig of Gainesville, FL, Michelle and Scott Zaret of Seattle, WA, Renee Rohrig of Mountain View, CA, Annette and Jeremy Gursky of Stow; four brothers and sister-in-law, John and Bernadine Rohrig of Canton, Ralph Rohrig of Navarre, Paul Rohrig of Magnolia, Melvin Rohrig of Canton; one sister and brother-in-law, Marcella and Herbert Crum of Louisville; sisters-in-law, Betty and Ellie Rohrig, both of Canton; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Martha Rupple

In the 1930 census, Mary M. Rupple (4 yrs 6 mos) was enumerated in the household of her uncle and aunt, Joseph and Martha R. (Rupple) Arnold at their home at 43 Jordan Ave. in Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio. Martha Rupple Arnold was the sister of Fred Rupple. Obituary:
Andrew C. Rohrig, age 81, died Monday in Aultman Hospital. Born in Fulda, OH, he had been a Canton resident most of his life. He was a barber for 54 years with his shop in the former William R. Day Building. Andrew was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the South Pacific for four years.
Survived by his wife, Betty J. Rohrig of the home; three daughters and two
sons-in-law, Kathy Walsh of Chesterfield, VA, Gail and Ronald Bissi of Falls
Church, VA, and Cheryl and Michael Nichols of Gardner, MA; a son and
daughter-in-law, Mark and Leslie Rohrig of Bowling Green, KY; nine grand-
children; a sister and brother-in-law, Marcella and Herbert Crum of Louisville;
and five brothers and two sisters-in-law, Elmer and Mary Rohrig of Canton,
Ralph Rohrig of Navarre, John and Bernadine Rohrig of Canton, Paul Rohrig
of East Sparta, and Melvin Rohrig of Canton. Preceded in death by a brother,
James Rohrig, and two sisters, Irene Michel and Anna Mary Strubel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Frank Carfagna as celebrant. Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. There will be no calling hours. The Lamiell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.


Leroy J. Strubel

Leroy J. Strubel's obituary appeared in The Times Reporter (Dover, New Philadelphia, Ohio) newspaper on April 1, 2005.
Leroy J. Strubel, age 70, of Navarre died Thursday, March 31, 2005,
unexpectedly in his home. He was born in Navarre, O., on Nov. 23, 1934,
to the late Jay E. and Loretta (Hambach) Strubel. He was a life resident
of the Navarre area and an Army veteran. He retired from the Timken Co.
in 1992 and was owner/operator of Lee's Mower Shop at Navarre. He
was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Anna
Mary Strubel, in 2004; sister, Irene Horn; grandson, Anthony Camp. He
is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Bonnie Strubel
of Navarre, Daniel and Kim Strubel of Robertsville, Randy and Annette
Strubel of Dover and Timothy and Jennie Strubel of Magnolia; two daugh-
ters and sons-in-law, Christine and James Stenger of Navarre and
Theresa and Dennis Schafrath of Beach City; 16 grandchildren; two great-
grandchildren; three sisters, Ardell Raynard of Dalton, Margie Speicher
of Silver Springs, Md., and Cecila "Sis" Flinner of Navarre; numerous
nieces and nephews; his companions, Peanut and Cashew.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 4, 2005, at 10 a.m. in the
Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave., Canton,
with Pastor Thomas Shank Jr. officiating. Interment will be in East Union
Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Memorial

Anna Mary Strubel, age 69, of Navarre, died Tuesday afternoon in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born December 29, 1934, in Fulda, OH; daughter of the late Walter A. and Elizabeth (Crock) Rohrig. She was a Navarre area resident for the past 45 years and a member of St. Clements Catholic Church. Preceded in death by a grandson, Anthony Camp; sister, Irene Michel; and a brother, James Rohrig. Survived by her husband, Leroy J. Strubel, to whom she had been married for 48 years; four sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Bonnie Strubel of Navarre, Daniel and Kim Strubel of Navarre, Randy and Annette Strubel of Dover and Timothy and Jennie Strubel of Magnolia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and James Stenger of Navarre, Theresa and Dennis Schafrath of Beach City; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Marcella Crum of Louisville; six brothers, Elmer, Andrew, John and Melvin Rohrig all of Canton, Ralph Rohrig of Navarre, Paul Rohrig of Magnolia; and her two companions, Peanut and Cashew. Paul Roehrig

The following birth announcement appeared in The Zanesville (OH) signal newspaper on December 17, 1937 Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rhorig (sic: Rohrig) of the Fulda community
announce the birth of a son, Wednesday evening.


Frederick Joseph Rupple

On 9 Aug 1883, the "Fulda" column of the Caldwell Citizens' Press reported the following:
Birth -- To Ignatz and Francisca Ruppel, a son

In 1900, 16 year old Fred Ruppel lived and worked on his parents farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio. He did not attend school in the previous year.

By the time of the 1910 census, brothers John (28) and Fred (26) Rupple had travelled far from home. They were listed as joint heads of households on a rented grain and stock farm in Post Twp., in Allamakee County, Iowa.

In 1920, Fred J. Rupplle (36) and his wife Barbara (37) rented a farm in Nimishillin Twp., Stark County, Ohio. They had no children.

At the time of the 1930 census, widowed farmer Fred Rupple (46) owned a farm in Nimishillin Twp. He lived there with his daughter Doris (9), and a widowed Scottish housekeeper, Mary Patterson (41). Doris attended school. Fred's other daughter, Mary (4 yrs 6 mos) was found in the household of her aunt Martha Rupple Arnold in Zanesville. Fred Rupple's neighbors in the census were Michael W. Zwick and Howard Sluss.

Obituary:
Fred J. Rupple employed at Timken Roller Baring Co. six years died Monday
morning [08 Apr 1946] in the home at 127 Arlington ave NW. He had suffered a heart
attack Saturday.
Born at Fulda, he was a farmer near Louisville for 30 years before moving to
Canton. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church.
Mr. Rupple, who was 62, leaves his widow, Mrs. Mary Rupple, two daughters,
Mrs. Elmer Rohrig and Mrs. Robert A. Kline; two brothers, Joseph of Canton and
John Rupple of Dochra, Ia.; three sisters, Mrs. Joseph Arnold of Zanesville, Mrs.
Alex Dimmerling of Caldwell, and Mrs. Francis Schafer of Malvern, and two grand-
children.
Rt. Rev. Msgr. Ralph C. Kotheimer sang a requiem High Mass Thrusday at 9:30
a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.


Mary Barbara Kress

From The Caldwell Citizens' Press, 14 Dec 1882:
Births -- On the 7th, a daughter to Peter and Elizabeth Kress.

Barbara Kress lived with her mother and four of her older brothers at the time of the 1910 census. The1910 census index gives her age as 22, which would put her year of birth at 1889, not 1882. The 1900 census lists her birthdate as Dec 1881, and her age as 17.

Wedding announcement:
On Tuesday morning, February 12, occurred the marriage of Miss Barbara
Kress and Frederick Ruppel, two young people who are highly esteemed by a
large circle of relatives and friends. The ceremony was performed at St. Peter’s
Catholic church at Canton by Rev. Father Stuber. The attendants were Miss
Martha Bishop and Walter Rorhig.
At the conclusion of the ceremony the bridal party went to the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Richard Krum where a fine dinner was served to the following guests:
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bishop, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Cholley and family, Misses
Martha Bishop, Elizabeth Crock and Dora Miday of Louisville; Miss Alma
Dodane and Walter Rorhig of Canton; Mrs. John Paumier and daughter, of Salem.
Mr. and Mrs. Ruppel received a number of beautiful and useful gifts from their
friends and also their well wishes for a long and happy life. They will live on a
farm north-east of Louisville.

Obituary:
Mrs. Barbara Rupple, wife of Frederick Rupple, died at her home four miles
north of Louisville, on Monday morning at 5 o’clock. Her age was 42 years.
Surviving are her husband and two daughters, aged six years and two weeks,
and the following brothers, John, Louis, Henry and Gerhard Kress of Fulda,
Ohio, and L. C. Kress of Louisville.
Mrs. Rupple was born at Fulda, coming from there to this vicinity eight years
ago. Those who were most intimately associated with her knew of her many
good qualities, her gentle kind disposition and her Christian character. Her
death is a great loss to the members of her family and her friends.
Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Catholic church at Harrisburg,
Wednesday morning, Rev. J. Kosinsky officiating. Interment was made in
the church cemetery.
