Frederick Joseph Rupple

On 9 Aug 1883, the "Fulda" column of the Caldwell Citizens' Press reported the following:
Birth -- To Ignatz and Francisca Ruppel, a son

In 1900, 16 year old Fred Ruppel lived and worked on his parents farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio. He did not attend school in the previous year.

By the time of the 1910 census, brothers John (28) and Fred (26) Rupple had travelled far from home. They were listed as joint heads of households on a rented grain and stock farm in Post Twp., in Allamakee County, Iowa.

In 1920, Fred J. Rupplle (36) and his wife Barbara (37) rented a farm in Nimishillin Twp., Stark County, Ohio. They had no children.

At the time of the 1930 census, widowed farmer Fred Rupple (46) owned a farm in Nimishillin Twp. He lived there with his daughter Doris (9), and a widowed Scottish housekeeper, Mary Patterson (41). Doris attended school. Fred's other daughter, Mary (4 yrs 6 mos) was found in the household of her aunt Martha Rupple Arnold in Zanesville. Fred Rupple's neighbors in the census were Michael W. Zwick and Howard Sluss.

Obituary:
Fred J. Rupple employed at Timken Roller Baring Co. six years died Monday
morning [08 Apr 1946] in the home at 127 Arlington ave NW. He had suffered a heart
attack Saturday.
Born at Fulda, he was a farmer near Louisville for 30 years before moving to
Canton. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church.
Mr. Rupple, who was 62, leaves his widow, Mrs. Mary Rupple, two daughters,
Mrs. Elmer Rohrig and Mrs. Robert A. Kline; two brothers, Joseph of Canton and
John Rupple of Dochra, Ia.; three sisters, Mrs. Joseph Arnold of Zanesville, Mrs.
Alex Dimmerling of Caldwell, and Mrs. Francis Schafer of Malvern, and two grand-
children.
Rt. Rev. Msgr. Ralph C. Kotheimer sang a requiem High Mass Thrusday at 9:30
a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.


John Fogle

In 1900, 31 year old John Fogle lived on a farm that he owned in Enoch Twp., Noble Co., Ohio with his 28 year old wife Matilda and their three daughters, Frona (4), Clara (2), and Ida (7 months). John spoke English, but could not read or write.

The following article about the Fogles' anniversary celebration appeared in the Zanesville Signal on 26 Jan 1945:
FAMILY DINNER MARKS GOLDEN WEDDING DATE
Mr. and Mrs. John Fogle, Dexter City, recently celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary.
A surprise party was given on Sunday and a family dinner was attended by
Mr. and Mrs. D.C. Fogle, Zanesville, Mr. and Mrs. John Saling, Mrs. and Mrs.
William Nau, Mrs. and Mrs. Albert Fogle, and Mr. and Mrs. O.J. Fogle, Dexter
City, Mr. and Mrs. William Brotton, Mrs. Felix Saling, and son Gerald, Caldwell.
Mr. and Mrs. Fogle have 36 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

John Fogle's obituary appeared in The Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on August 17, 1948.
Funeral services for John Fogle, 81, a lifelong Noble county farmer, father
of David Fogle of this city, will be held at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning at St.
Mary's Catholic church at Fulda. Rev. Fr. B. J. Mattes will officiate and burial
will be in Caldwell.
Mr. Fogle died Sunday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. William Nau of
near Dexter City. Death resulted from a lingering illness following a cerebral
hemorrage.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. John Sailing, Mrs. Nau, both of Dexter
City, and Mrs. Clara Sailing and Mrs. William Brotton, both of Caldwell; three
sons, David of this city, and Otto and Albert, both of Dexter City.
The body is at the home of Mrs. Nau.

JOHN FOGLE, 81. CALLED BY DEATH
CALDWELL -- John Fogle, aged 81, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs.
William Nau of Dexter City Route, Sunday at 7 o'clock, p. m. following an
extended illness from cerebral hemorrhage (sic). A farmer by occupation
Mr. Fogle had lived in Noble county all of his life. His wife, Otillia Fogle died
in 1945. He was the last surviving member of his family. Two brothers and
three sisters are deceased.
Surviving are the following children: Mrs. John Sailing, Mrs. William Nau,
Otto and Albert Fogle, all of near Dexter City, Mrs. Clara (Felix) Sailing and
Mrs. William Brotton, near Caldwell and David Fogle of Zanesville. There
are 40 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's
Catholic in Fulda, conducted by the pastor, The Very Rev. B. J. Mattes. The
body was taken to the home of Mrs. Nau, Monday evening.

Ottilia Rose Blake

In 1900, all three of Matilda Fogle's children were living. Matilda was the only member of the household who could read and write.

Obituary:
LOCAL MAN’S MOTHER DIES AT DEXTER CITY
Funeral services for Mrs. Ottilika (sic) Fogle, 73, of Dexter City, mother of
David Fogle of Zanesville, will be held at 9 o’clock Thursday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic church at Fulda, with Rev. Fr. B.J. Mattes officiating. Burial
will be in St. Mary’s cemetery.
Mrs. Fogle died Monday evening [02 Apr 1945] at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. William Nau of Dexter City Route 1. She was the daughter of John and
Mary Blake and had lived her entire life in the Dexter City vicinity. She was a
member of St. Mary’s church at Fulda.
Surviving are her husband, John Fogle; three sons, David of Zanesville, and
Adolph and Albert of Dexter City; and four daughters, Mrs. Nau at whose home
she died, Mrs. John Saling of Dexter City, Route 1, Mrs. Felix Saling of Caldwell
Route 4, and Mrs. William Brotton of Middleburg; 27 grandchildren, and four brothers,
Beade Blake, Roman, and Fred Blake, both of Dexter City; John Blake of Braddock,
Pa.; and Joseph Blake of Iowa. One sister and four brothers are deceased.

Valentine Fogle

In 1870, 58 year old farmer Valentine Fogel lived in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his wife Bertha (40). Both were born in Hesse-Cassel. With them lived their children, William (14), Elizabeth (12), Genevieve (10), Katherine (6) and John (3). Only William and Elizabeth attended school. Adjacent farms in the census belong to Barnabus Gill and John Johnson.


William Fogle

In 1900, 44 year old unmarried William Fogle lived on a mortgaged farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio with three unmarried siblings: Lizzie (41), Catherine (36), and Valentine (27). William, who worked as a wagon-maker, was listed as the head of the household. He was able to read and write.

Elizabeth Mary Fogle

Elizabeth Fogle never married. In 1900, 41 year old Lizzie lived with several siblings on a farm in mortgaged farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio. No occupation is listed for Lizzie. She spoke English, but could not read or write.

Elizabeth Fogle's obituary appeared in The Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on November 14, 1934.
ELIZABETH FOGLE RITES WEDNESDAY
CALDWELL, O., Nov. 14 -- Funeral services were held
this morning at 9 o'clock for Miss Elizabeth Fogle, 75, who
died at her home near Gem, south of Caldwell, Sunday
evening at 6:30 due to complications.
She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Valentine
Fogle, and was born and reared in Belmont county, but
moved to Noble county where she has been a resident for
50 years. She is survived by one sister, Miss Katherine of
the home, and three brothers, William of the home, John
Fogle, near Dexter and Edward Fogle of Gem. Services
were held from the St. Mary's Catholic church at Fulda,
conducted by Rev. Father Mattes and burial was made in
the church cemetery.

No cause of death was listed on Elizabeth Fogle's death certificate. It stated "No physician in attendance." Other information from death certificate:

Katharina Fogle

Catherine Fogle never married. In 1900, 36 year old Catherine lived with several siblings in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio. She was able to read and write English.

CATHERINE FOGLE TAKEN BY DEATH
CALDWELL - Miss Catherine Fogle, 84, died at
her home near Dexter City, Wednesday eveing at 4:30 o’clock,
following illness. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Valentine Fogle. Her entire life had been spent in the vicinity
of Dexter City.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at nine a.m. at
St. Mary's Catholic church at Fulda, with Rev. Fr. B. J. Mattes
officiating, with the Estadt funeral home in charge of arrange-
ments. Burial will be in Dudley cemetery.
The body was removed Thursday to the home of Miss
Amelia Fogle.

The "Miss Amelia Fogle" mentioned in Katherine Fogle's obituary is probably her sister-in-law, Amelia Estadt Fogle, widow of Edward V. Fogle.
