Linda Lee Carter

Obituary:
Linda Lee Mazgay, age 54, of Caldwell, Ohio died Monday
morning (5/26/2003) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center in
Cambridge, Ohio. She was born November 8, 1948 at Martins Ferry,
Ohio a daughter of Bertha Norris Carter of Caldwell, Ohio and the late
Robert Carter. She was a homemaker, mother and a member of St.
Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell, Ohio. In addition to her father she is preceded in death by a brother
Robert Norris. In addition to her mother she is survivived by her husband
Ted E. Mazgay, whom she married in 1966; 2 sons Teddy Joe Mazgay
of Lancaster, Ohio and Jimmy Mazgay of Caldwell, Ohio; 2 daughters
Mindy (Randy) McElfresh and Stacey (Denny) Saling both of Caldwell,
Ohio; 4 sisters Cheryl (Paul) Keith, Deb (Dave) Cartell both of Caldwell,
Ohio, Becky (Denny) Miller and Kay (Danny) Miller both of Sarahsville,
Ohio; 2 brothers Mike (Jan) Carter of Caldwell, Ohio and Chuck (Jody)
Carter of Sarahsville, Ohio; 5 grandchildren Lyndsay & Kyler McElfresh,
Haylee & Brennan Saling and Sophie Mazgay; numerous nieces and
nephews. Friends may call Wednesday (5/28/2003) from 11 AM to 1PM
at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, Ohio 43724,
where services will be held on Wednesday (5/28/2003) at 1PM with the
Rev. Fr. Samuel Saprano officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary
Cemetery in Belle Valley, Ohio.


Clarence August Miller

According to the online Ohio death certificate index, Clarence Miller attended school for six years.

In 1915, 16 year old farmer Clarence Miller lived in Mechanicsville, Fremont Twp., Cedar Co., Iowa. According to his 1915 Iowa census registration card he was unmarried, Catholic, had completed 7 years of "Common" school, had earned $290 farming in 1914, could read and write and had lived in Iowa for 1 year. Like his parents, he was born in Ohio.

On June 5, 1917, unmarried Clarence August Miller (21, dob August 21, 1895, pob Harrietsville, Ohio) of Mechanicsville, Iowa registered for the military draft. On his draft registration card he lists his occupation as farmer and his employer as Isador Miller of Mechanicsville, Iowa. His physical description is given as Medium height; stout build, blue eyes and brown hair. He had a hearing disability.

In 1920, 24 year old Clarence Miller lived with his wife Syvinia (22) on a farm owned by his parents George and Elizabeth Schott Miller in Elk Twp., Noble Co., Ohio. The census gives Clarence occupation as farmer.

In 1930, Clarence A. Miller (34) lived in a house that he owned at 30 Cumberland St. in Caldwell Village, Olive Twp., Noble County, Ohio. With him lived his wife Sylvina (32) and children Howard (9), Wilma (8), Virginia (3 yrs, 10 mos), and Richard (1 yr, 9 mos.). Howard and Wilma attended school. The Miller home was valued at $2500. The family owned a radio set. Clarence was employed as a salesman in a gasoline station.

The following article appeared in The Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on February 15, 1933:GLENNA EUCHRE CLUB Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Miller entertained the members of the Glenna euchre
club at their home on Locust street, Monday evening. Three tables of euchre were
in play during the evening with the prizes for high score going to Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Eichhorn. The guest prize was awarded Adam Nau, Fulda. A feature of the evening was the presentation of birthday presents to the host
and hostesses small daughter, Wilma, who celebrates her birthday anniversary
this week. Refreshments in keeping with St. Valentine day were served to Mr.
and Mrs. Wade Oillespie, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Luke, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Eichhorn
and daughter, Mildred, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Feldner, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Long.
Mrs. Board, Dexter City and Adam Nau, Fulda were guests of the club.

On April 27, 1942 Clarence August Miller (46, dob August 21, 1895; pob Noble Co., Ohio) of 1303 Sharon Ave., Zanesville, Muskingum Co., Ohio registered for the military draft. His draft registration card lists Mr. G. W. Morrison of 1229 Wheeling Ave., Zanesville, Ohio as the person who will always know his address. His employer is given as Standard Oil Co., Pershing Ave., Zanesville, Muskingum Co., Ohio. His physical description is given as height: 5'7"; weight: 160 lbs.; eyes: blue; hair: brown; complexion: light. He is alwo described as having a scar on the little finger of his left hand.

CLARENCE MILLERS CELEBRATE 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence A. Miller of Route 4 will celebrate their golden wedding
anniversary with an open house Sunday, May 25 at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
Hours will be from 2 until 4 p.m.
The Millers were married May 27, 1919 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fulda.
Mrs. Miller is the former Sylvina Nau, daughter of Adam and Mary Ann Gerst Nau.
Her husband's parents were George and Elizabeth Schott Miller. Mr. and Mrs. Miller
lived in Caldwell until they were transferred to Zanesville in 1937 by the Standard Oil
Company. Later, Mr. Miller was with the State Liquor Store here. He is now retired
but serves as a trustee in Wayne Township. The Millers are members of St. Nicholas
Catholic Church. Mr. Miller is a member of the American Legion post at Duncan Falls.
The couple has three daughters, Mrs. Don (Wilma) Fulton of Duncan Falls, Mrs.
James (Virginia) Kessler of Route 3, and Mrs. David (Carol) Brown of Ashland; and two
sons, Howard of Moonlight Drive and Richard of Southard Avenue. There are 24 grand-
children and 12 great-grandchildren.

William Albert Nau

William A. Nau's obituary appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on September 18, 1975.

William A. Nan (sic), 73, of Dexter City Route 1 died at 8:53 a.m. Wednesday in Good Samaritan
Medical Center. He was born Sept. 21, 1901, in Noble County. He was a member of St. Mary's
Catholic Church at Fulda.
He is survived by his widow, Bertha Fogle Nau two sons, Howard of Caldwell Route 6 and
Robert of Pleasant City Route 1; four daughters, Mrs. Ellwood Pilcher of Caldwell Route 4, Mrs.
Ramona Tomes, of Waterford Route 1, Mrs. Rita Fulton of Waterford Route 2, Mrs. Patricia Lang
of Marietta Route 2; 21 grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m Saturday in SC. Mary’s Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Friday in McVay Funeral. Home at Caldwell where friends may call
Thursday 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.


Urban J. Estadt

Urban Estadt’s obituary appeared in the Zanesville Signal on 27 Dec 1929:
URBAN ESTADT, OF CALDWELL, DIES OF FRACTURED SKULL
CALDWELL, O., Dec 26 - Urban Estadt, 26, well known prominent young man, and proprietor of the City Bakery on Bridge street, Caldwell, died at Wells hospital, Cambridge, Christmas day at 9:30 p.m. following an operation for injuries received last Saturday night, when he fell at his home south of Caldwell, and suffered a fractured skull. Immediately following the accident he was rushed to the Cambridge hospital, but never regained consciousness.
Mr. Estadt is the son of Henry and Elizabeth Estadt, who reside on South Cumberland street, Caldwell. He was a member of the St. Philomena Catholic church at this place.
Surviving are his widow, who was Miss Sophia Nau, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Nau; four children, Robert, aged 5 years, LaVerne, 3, Madeline, 2 and Reta, 6 weeks.
His parents and the following brothers and sisters also survive: Harley Estadt, Bridge street, Caldwell, Andres and Clemence Estadt, Pittsburgh; Bernard, James, and Mildred, of the home. A sister, Mary, died three years ago. The body was brought to the home on the Marietta road, just south of Caldwell, Thursday. Funeral services will be held from the St. Philomena church on Saturday morning at 9 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Mark Campbell, and burial will be made in the Olive cemetery by Brubach.


Sophia Eva Nau

The following wedding announcement appeared in the Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on November 12, 1925: ESTADT-NAU WEDDING Miss Sophia Nau of Fulda and Mr. Urban Estadt, of Caldwell, were
united in marriage, Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock, at the Catholic church
at Fulda. Rev. J. B. Oeink officiated. The attendants were Miss Rosa
Gerst and Mr. Frances Estadt. A 12 o'clock wedding dinner was served
at the home of the brides parents, at which 45 guests were present. An
informal dance was enjoyed in the evening, and refreshments were
served. Mr. and Mrs. Estadt will make their home in Caldwell.

Frank Ostroski's obituary appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on March 3, 1970. SUMMERFIELD -- Frank Ostroski, 60, of Caldwell route 4,
died at 2:20 p.m. Sunday (March 1) at Veterans' Hospital in
Cleveland where he had been a patient since last October. A famer, he was a veteran of World War II and was a mem-
ber of the Disabled American Veterans and St. Mary's catholic
church at Fulda. He was born in Cleveland August 18, 1909 a son of Theo-
dore and Amelia Ostroski. Surviving are his widow, the former Cecilia Nau; two daughters
Shirley and Vivian of the home; a son, Robert of Cambridge; two
brothers, Raymond and Edward and three sisters, Mrs. Bertha
Bergman, Mrs. Leona Fisher and Mrs. Alice Laughlin all of Cleve-
land. A brother is deceased. The body was taken to the Brubach Funeral Home at Sum-
merfield but will be removed to the Murphy funeral Home at
Caldwell were friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St.
Mary's Church with Rev. Fr. J. J. Donaldson officiating. Burial
will be iin (sic) the church cemetery with military rites by VFW
the post at Caldwell.
