Carl Clyde Ehrlinspiel

Carl Ehrlinspiel was the victim of a robbery-homicide. His body was found at 10:15 a.m. on 2 Apr 1985 in a parking lot on the 200 block of Trump Rd. NE in Canton. He had been struck in the head with a brick and robbed. An arrest was made the following day. After pleading guilty, the killer was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.

Obituary:
Carl C. Ehrlinspiel, age 55, of 4052 Georgetown Rd NE, Canton, was pronounced dead on
arrival at Doctor’s Hospital Tuesday, April 2 following a homicide.
Born in Alliance, Oct. 9, 1929, he lived in the area all his life. A retired plumber, operating
Carl’s Plumbing Co. for several years, he was a member of the Louisville VFW Chapter 7490
and FOE Aerie 2374, and a Korean Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Helen (Motz) of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Titus (Carla)
Yoder and Mrs. Chet (Lisa) DiVito, both of Wooster, and Ms. Janet Ehrlinspiel of Canton; three
sons, David of North Canton, Michael of Louisville and Robert of Canton; 9 grandchildren; two
brothers, Richard of Benton, Louisiana, and James of Alliance; two step-daughters, Mrs. Lou
(Sharon) Minck and Mrs. Sandra Shaffer, both of Louisville; 9 step-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Louis Catholic Church with burial in
Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends called at the Paquelet Funeral Home Thursday. FOE
services were also held on Thursday at 6 p.m.


Helen A. Motz

Obituary from the Canton Repository May 26, 2004 Helen E. (Motz) Ehrlinspiel, age 80 of Canton, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away Saturday May 22, 2004
in the Minerva Eldercare Center following an extended illness. Helen was
born August 7, 1923 in Rocky River to the late Ralph and Mary (Earley)
Motz. She was a member of the Louisville Fraternal Order of Eagles and
American Legion Post #548 Ladies Auxiliary. Helen's family wishes to thank
the staff at Minerva Eldercare for the compassionate and loving care given to
their mother during her stay there.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Sandra M. Shaffer of Louisville;
four sisters, Ruth Craig of Crossville, TN, Marian Eslich of Waynesburg,
Judy Agnew of California and Flora Dobransky of Waynesburg; two brothers, Dale (Cathy) Motz and Gale (Barb) Motz; nine grandchildren, Dwight, Rick, Dan, Sonja, Dawn, Terry, Sharry, Mark and Richard; nine great grandchildren; son-in-law, Lou Minck of Liberty, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by husbands, Carl Ehrlinspiel and Richard Allan; a daughter, Sharon Minck; and five brothers, Bill, Fred, George, Chuck and Robert Motz.
Funeral services for Helen will be conducted Friday at 12:00 p.m. in
the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home of Louisville with Rev. James P. Mock officiating.
Interment will follow in Waynesburg. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8
p.m. and Friday one hour prior to services at the funeral home


Carl B. Ehrlinspiel

Carl Ehrlinspiel worked as a carpenter for the railroad. His father was born in Germany, and his mother was from Switzerland. In 1930, he, his wife, and infant son Carl rented part of a two-ramily house at 104 West Columbia St. in Alliance for $22 a month.

According to the 1930 census, Ceclia Ehrlinspiel's father was born in Indiana and her mother was from Pennsylvania.
