Henry John Schott

On Sept 12, 1918, 42 year old farmer Henry John Schott of RD 1, Waterford, Washington Co., Ohio registered for the military draft. He gave his date of birth as 22 Feb 1876. His nearest relative is given as Mrs. Willie Schott. Henry was described as being of medium height and build, with brown eyes and brown hair.

In 1920, 43 year-old Henry J. Schott owned a farm in Watertown Twp., Washington County, Ohio. Living with him were his wife, Willa E. (40 -- the second digit is not clear) and children Mary (7), Francis (5) and George (3 yrs 7 mos), and -- listed after the younger children -- a daughter named Leo Monahan (18). Henry and the younger children were born in Ohio, as were the children's parents. Willa was a native of Virginia, and Leo was born in Mississippi, as was her father. Neighboring farms in the census belonged to P.L. Schwendemann and Joseph Larig.

At the time of the 1930 census, Henry Schott (54) and his wife Willie (57) still lived on a farm in Watertown with Henry's three children, Mary (17), Francis (15) and George (14). All of the children attended school. According to the census, Henry was first married when he was 35 years old (1911). Adjacent farms in the census belonged to George Strahler and J. E. Lang.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schatt and son George attended the annual Schott reunion on Sunday, July 30, 1933 at the fairgrounds in Marietta, Ohio. See notes of Jacob Schott for a complete list of attendees.

The following note appeared in The Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on September 3, 1938: Mr. and Mrs. Henry H. Schott, near Churchtown, and son,
George, of Detroit, and daughter Frances Schott, McConnels-
ville, are on a two weeks' motor trip through the south.

Henry Schott had an unsuccessful operation for obstruction of the large bowel the day prior to his death.

Henry Schott is remembered as a farmer who was a good, kind man. He had a warm smile under his moustache. His granddaughter, Ann Schott Steffy was only four when Henry died, but she recalls feeling safe and happy sitting on his lap in a rocking chair at Aunt Annie Boswell's home in Marietta. Ann remembers how hot it was at Henry's funeral, in a church with paper fans like she had never seen before.


Ethel Kenney

Ethel Kenny died of pneumonia two days after giving birth to her son, George.

The death certificate of daughter Mary Agnes Schott states that her mother's maiden name was Kenney.


Mary Agnes Schott

Mary was a sweet, simple girl who was a devout Catholic. Her step-mother Willie Mae disapproved when Mary entered the convent. Williie Mae contacted the order and spread falsehoods about Mary that caused the convent to discharge her. One can imagine that Mary must have been devastated. She kept the cross she received as a noviate, which was passed on to her niece, Ann Schott Steffy. Mary later became a cook-housekeeper for the priests at St. John's and Blessed Sacrament in Newark. She never married. She died at St. Mary's Nursing Home in Columbus Ohio. Her remains were cremated.

Mary Schott's Social Security number was issued in Michigan prior to 1951.

Willa A. Monahan Morgan

According to the 1920 census, Willa was born in Virginia; her parents were natives of Mississippi. Her child, "Leo" (identified as a female in the 1920 census) was born in Mississippi, as was her father. Henry Schott's wife's name in several documents from 1918 to 1930 is "Willie" or "Willa." Her granddaughter Ann Schott Steffy remembers her as "Willie May."

The 1930 census states that Willie Schott was first married at the age of 17. This census gives her birthplace as West Virginia. Her death certificate states that she was born in Mississippi.

Willie Mae Schott is not remembered fondly by her step-children. She frequently told her step-son George that he "would end up in a penitentiary." (George eventually went to work for the Ford Motor Company in Michigan and missed only two days' work in 44 years.) Willie disapproved when her step-daughter Mary entered the convent. Willia Mae contacted the order and spread falsehoods about Mary that caused the convent to discharge her.

Willa Schott's obituary was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 5 Apr 1950. MRS. HENRY SCHOTT RITES TODAY Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Schott, 77, of the Church-
town neighborhood near Lowell, will be conducted from the
Churchtown Catholic church Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock.
Burial will be in the St. John's Catholic church cemetery at
Churchtown by the Peoples funeral home. Mrs. Schott died at her home Sunday morning following a
long illness. She is survived by three daughters and several
step-children.

Edward and Catherine were born in Ohio as were Edward's parents and Catherine's mother; Catherine's father was born in New Jersey.

Self employed farmer, Edward Joseph Schott reistered for the military draft, date unknown, and gave his date of birth as October 22, 1879. His nearest realtive is listed as Kathryne Schott of Marietta, Washington Co., Ohio. His physical description is geiven as medium height and build, blue eyes and brown hair.

By the time of the 1920 census, 40 year old farmer Edward J. Schott lived with his wife Catherine C. (38) had purchased a farm in Warren Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. Living with them was their son Carl V. (9). All members of the household were born in Ohio as were Edward's parents and Catherine's mother; Catherine's father was born in New Jersey.

In 1930, farmer Edward J. Schott (50) and his wife Catherine C. (48) still owned a farm in Warren Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. Based on census data, they had been married for 22 years. Living with them were their children Carl V. (19) and Anna M. (8). Anna attended school. All members of the household were born in Ohio as were Edward's and Catherine's parents. The family owned a radio. Listed on the same census form as Edward and Catherine is Catherine's brother Henry E. Christy and his family.

According to the Ohio online death certificate index, Edward was married at the time of his death.

In 1910, 29 year old George H. Bosner lived with his wife of 1 year, Anna M. (28) in an unnumbered house they rented on First Street, Lowell Villiage, Adams Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. George worked as a section hand for a street railway. George and anna were both born in Ohio.

On Sept 12, 1918, 37 year old George Herman Bosner of 718 Fourth Street, Marietta, Washington Co., Ohio registered for the military draft. His nearest relative is given as Anna Bosner of the same address. George's occupation is listed as blacksmith helper for Cultus (sp) Bros. Co. at 126 Second Street, Marietta, Ohio. George's description is given as medium height and build, brown eyes and black hair. One question on the draft registration card asks about physical disabilites. The word "Navel" is written after this question.

In 1920, 38 year old George M. Bosner lived with his wife Anna M. (36) and children Howard F. (9) and Catherine M. (7) on a rented home at 718 Fourth Street, Marietta, Washington Co., Ohio. Living in the house as a roomer was 20 year old Ambrose Thimen. George worked as a laborer in "Oil Well Supplies" and Ambrose as a laborer in a steel mill. both children attended school. All members of the household were born in Ohio.

In 1930, 48 year old George Borner [Bosner] lived with his wife Anna (46) and children, Howard (19) and Catherine (17) in a home they owned (value $4000) at 109 High Street, Marietta, Washington Co., Ohio. George and Howard both worked as general laborers. Catherine attended school. All members of the household were born in Ohio. The family did not own a radio. Living next door at 111 High Street were Anna's parents, George (81) and Catherine (80) Schott.

George Bosner was a 52 year old unemployed machinist living at 109 High St. in Marietta at the time of his death in 1933. He died at home.
