Edward Warner

In 1870, 31 year old shoemaker Edward Warner lived in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his wife Rebecca (28) and child Mary. Edward was not a naturalized citizen in 1870. He did not own any real estate, and the value of the family's possessions was only $200. Edward and his wife were born in Hesse Cassel; Mary was born in Pennsylvania. Adjacent households in the census belonged to John Heil (Hill) and (Franz) Joseph Ritterbeck. The relationship between Rebecca Heil Warner and neighbor John Heil is not known.

At the time of the 1870 census, 40 year old Edward Warner lived in the Village of Fulda, Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his wife Rebecca and children Mary (12), Joseph (9), John (8), Leon (7), Anna (5), Amelia (2) and Edward and Leon attended school. Edward Warner worked as a shoe- and boot-maker. The birthplaces of Edward, his wife, and oldest child agreed with the 1870 census. The younger children were born in Ohio. Neighboring households in the census were those of shoemaker Killian Raab and blacksmith Joseph Simmens.

In the Caldwell Citizens' Press (20 Jan 1881):
FOR SALE -- Lot No. 9 and 10 in the town of Fulda, Ohio containing nearly
one and one-half acres with good house and stable. Location suitable for any
business. For particulars call on or address Edward Werner, Fulda, Ohio.

From the "Fulda Locals" column of The Caldwell Citizens' Press 12 May 1881:
The sale of the property of Ed. Warner to John Hall was annuled, the latter
failing in the first payment.
[John Hall died later that year.]

The following note appeared in the Fulda Locals column of The Caldwell Citizens' Press on 25 Aug 1881:
Edward Werner has removed to Athens County.

In 1900, Edward (60) and Rebecca (57) Heil owned a farm in Lodi Twp., Athens County, Ohio. They had been married for 24 years. Living with them were their children Edward (20), Henry (17), and Frona (13). Henry and Frona attended school. Edward came to America in 1866. He was a naturalized citizen. According to the census, both Edward and Rebecca could read and write, but could not speak English.

Rebecca Heil

Records conflict on year of birth:
1842 -- Snider
1843 -- 1900 census

According to the 1900 census all 9 of Rebecca Heil Warner's children were still living.

Mary Warner

According to the 1870 census, Mary Warner was born in Pennsylvania. Although her age in that census is illegible, it can be estimated that she was under the age of 5. Children who were over the age of 5 have "at home" or "at school in the Occupation column. The column is left blank for children under 5, as it is for Mary Warner.

According to Delores Snider, Mary Warner entered the convent.

Henry Warner

Henry Warner is not listed by Dolores Snider as a child of Edward and Rebecca (Heil) Warner.
