Selected Families and Individuals

Notes

Eleanor Mary Smithberger

The following appeared in the "Berne and Vicinity" column of The Caldwell Citizens' Press on 3 Nov 1915:
Miss Eleanor Smithberger of Harrietsville, William and Lewis Crum, spent
Sunday with Leo Crum and wife.

Walter J. Moran

In 1930, 30 year old Walter Moran lived with his wife Rose (37) in a home they owned (value $10,000) at 4037 W. 157th Street in Cleveland, Cayahoga County, Ohio. According to census information, they had been married for 3 years. Walter worked as an assistant shopman for a telegraph company. Walter and his parents were born in Canada; Rose and her parents were born in Ohio. Walter became an naturalized citizen in 1924. They owned a radio.

Social Security number was issued in Ohio prior to 1951.

Rose Ida Schott

Social Security # issued in Illinois prior to 1951.

Nineteen year old unmarried Rose Schott did not live with her parents and siblings at the time of the 1910 census. In 1910, 19 year old Rose Schott lived as a roomer in the home of attorney Joseph Mayhugh Jr. (41) and his wife Eliza J. (42) at 111 Hawkins Ave. in North Braddock, Allegheny Co., Pa. The Mayhughs, like Rose, were born in Ohio. Rose was unemployed.

There were only two women named Ros* Smithberger in the 1920 US Census; both lived in Ohio. One was Rose Zwick Smithberger, 40 year old wife of George Smithberger in Noble County. The other was 26 year old unmarried Rose Smithberger, an office worker in Cleveland who was one of several boarders in the home of P. W. West. According to the census, Rose and her parents were natives of Pennsylvania. It's possible that the census taker visited the West home while most of the occupants were at work, and Mrs. West answered the census questions as best she could.
