J. Francis Hesson

From the 1900 census: 41 year old farmer J. Francis Hesson [given name is illegible in census] lived on a rented farm in Jefferson Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his 34 year old wife W.V. and their three children, Enda May (13), Mart (8), and Esther (7 months). Frank and Weltha had been married for 13 years in 1900. Frank was born in Ohio, as were his parents. Frank, Weltha, and Edna were able to read and write English.

Frank Hesson Succumbs At Home Of Daughter
Frank Hesson 89, passed away Saturday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clarence Thompson, of Lower Salem route following decline. He is the last member of the John and Rebecca Hesson family. He spent all but the last few years of his life in the Middleburg community. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Edna Williams of South Olive and Mrs. Esther Thompson of Lower Salem route. Eight grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Monday at 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon at Ogle's Church near Middleburg and interment was made the the church cemetery, with the Gardner Funeral Home in charge.

Weltha V. Morris

From the 1900 census: 34 year old W.V. Hesson had given birth to three children, all of whom were alive in 1900. Weltha was born in Ohio, as were her parents.


John Hesson

At the time of the 1850 census, 27 year old farmer John Hesson lived in Elk Twp., Monroe Co., Ohio with his 18 year old wife Ann E. and four month old son Felix. Also living in the household was 23 year old farmer Isaak Lamp.

In 1860, 35 year old Ohio-born farmer John Hesson lived in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his 27 year old wife Rebecca and three children: Felix (10), Giles (4), and Francis (2). Felix and Giles attended school. The household immediately preceding John Hesson's in the census was Solomon Hesson. Also living in John Hesson's household in 1860 was the Shrimp family: Michael (43), Leoann (?) (37), Benj (16), Elizabeth (14), Lucy (13), Julia (10), Franklin (8), and John (6). The relationship between the Hessons and the Schrimps is not known.

In 1870, John Hesson (48) lived in Enoch Twp. with his wife Rebecca (38) and children Giles (13), Francis (11), George (8), and Charles (3). The three older attended school. Adjacent households in the census were those of Miles Hesson and and John Snyder.

At the time of the 1880 census, John (58) and Rebecca (48) Hesson still lived in Enoch Twp. Living with them were their sons Giles (23), Francis (21), George (17), Charley (13) and Thomas C. (7). According to the census, Francis, George, and Charley attended school. Neighboring farms belonged to James Hesson and John's son Felix Hesson.

In 1900, 78 year old John Hesson lived on a farm that he owned in Enoch Twp.with his 67 year old wife, Rebecca, their unmarried son, Thomas (26), and two grandchildren, Edith (20) and Albert (16). (It is believed that they are the children of John's son Felix.) John Hesson was born in Ohio, along with his mother. His father was born in Pennsylvania. John spoke English, but could not read or write.

The households on either side of John Hesson's in the 1900 census were those of Charles Hesson (33) and Solomon Hesson (72). It is believed that John Hesson and Solomon Hess were brothers, but this has not been proven.

According to the census, all five of Rebecca Miller Hesson's were alive in 1900. Rebecca was born in Ohio, as were her parents. Rebecca was able to read and write.

According to the 1880 census, George Hesson suffered from iinflammatory rheumatism.


John Estadt

Records conflict on year of birth: 21 Apr 1863 (Snider) vs. Apr 1861 (1900 census).

In 1900, 39 year old farmer John Estadt lived on a rented farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his 24 year old wife Mary and their son Walter (2). John could not write English, although he was able to speak and read the language.


Edward Bernard Roehrig

FULDA -- Edward B. Roehrig, 64, of Fulda, died Friday evening (Nov. 17, 2000) at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. He was born Jan. 7, 1936, in Fulda, to Dorothy Roehrig Bing. He worked for many years building industrial bins and agricultural silos and owned and operated Fulda Construction. He was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fulda. He was an avid fisherman and deer hunter.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie A, Sanders Roehrig, whom he married Nov. 5, 1966; three daughters, Lilly A. (Dan) Miracle, Mary L. (Skip) Young of Zanesville and Tracy I. Roehrig of Columbus; three sons, Dennis E. (Teri) Roehrig of Zanesville, Nelson T. (Stacy) Roehrig of Fulda and Edward J. (Penny) Roehrig of Jacksonville, Fla.; his mother of Massillon; two sisters, Eleanor Riski and Mary Craig, both of Caldwell; one brother, Ronald (Charlene) Bing of Massillon; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Albert and Molly Roehrig; three brothers, Terrance, Roy and Bernard; and three sisters, Eulalia, Valot and Freda Gill.

Mass of Christian burial was at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Samuel Saprano officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. McVay-Perkins Funeral Home in Caldwell was in charge of arrangements.


Marilyn Jean Thompson

The following engagement announcement appeared in The Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on September 4, 1955: CALDWELL -- The engagement and approaching marriage of Marilyn Jean Thompson, to Edward Roehrig, son of Mrs. Mollie Roehrig, of near Caldwell, has been announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Thompson, of near Caldwell. Miss Thompson attended Fulda high school and is employed with the Kegerreis store in Caldwell. Mr. Roehrig attended Fulda high school, and is employed with A. G. Schoeppner, contractor. The wedding will be an event of Saturday, Sept. 17.


Nelson T. Roehrig

Nelson Roehrig was living in Fulda, Noble Co., OH in Nov 2000. His father's obituary indicates that Nelson's wife's name was Stacy, but Nelon's half-sister Tracy says that the two were never married.

The following engagement announcement appeared in The Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on September 4, 1955: CALDWELL -- The engagement and approaching marriage of Marilyn Jean Thompson, to Edward Roehrig, son of Mrs. Mollie Roehrig, of near Caldwell, has been announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Thompson, of near Caldwell.
