Earl James Barton

Obituary:
CALDWELL -- Earl James Barton, 85, of Caldwell,
died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at OSU Medical Center in Colum-
bus.
He was born July 8, 1919, in Noble County, son
of the late Elmer and Claudice Gill Barton. He was a U.S.
Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Leona "Skip" Saling Barton,
to whom he was married for 30 years; daughter Mrs. Robert
(Linda) Corp of Whipple; three grandchildren; one great-
grandson; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
today at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell. Mass of
Christian burial will be observed at 10 a.m. Monday at St.
Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fulda,
with the Father Samuel Saprano as celebrant. Burial will be
at Olive Cemetery in Caldwell. Christian Scripture service will
be observed this evening at 7:30 p.m.


Elmer Lewis Saling

CALDWELL - Elmer L. Saling, 76, of Caldwell, passed away Friday morning (Nov. 13, 2009) at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. He was born March 3, 1933, in Noble County, son of the late Felix and Clara Fogle Saling.
He was a United States Army veteran and was formerly employed as a dozer operator for Crock Construction. He retired as a press operator from the former Dana Corporation in Caldwell. He was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fulda and a member of the Caldwell Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed woodworking.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Cora Bond Saling, who passed away May 5, 1996; one sister, Mary Evelyn Arnold; and five brothers, Clem, Bernard, Herman, Bill and Gerald “Trix” Saling.

Surviving are four sons, Darrell L. (Sandra) Saling of Fulda, G. Alan (Kelly) Saling of Cumberland, Christopher W. (Erin) Saling of Caldwell and James Elmer Saling of Fulda; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East St., Caldwell, followed by a Christian Scripture service at 8 p.m. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be observed Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fulda with the Rev. Fr. Thomas Hamm as celebrant. A military graveside service will follow in St. Marys Cemetery conducted by the Noble County Veteran Services Organization.

William Roman Saling

William R. ''Bill'' Saling, age 59, of Caldwell, died
unexpectedly Thursday (7/29/2004) at his residence. He was
born 7/3/1945 in Caldwell, a son of Marge E. Crum Saling of
Caldwell and the late Bernard J. Saling. He was a 1963 graduate
of Caldwell High School, and a 1969 graduate of the Ohio State
University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in education. He had
also completed some post-graduate work at Marietta College.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving
from 1969 to 1972, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant, and
spending one year in Turkey. Mr. Saling taught art at Zanesville
Middle School and Caldwell High School for 19 years. He was a
professional artist and craftsman, known for his clog dancers. He
exibited his art throughout Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and
Tennessee. He was a member of the Caldwell United Methodist
Church and its M.A.G.I.C. Sunday School Class. Mr. Saling was
a founder of Art on the Square in Caldwell, which recently com-
pleted its twenty-eighth year; a member of the Ohio Designer
Craftsmen and the Ohio Arts and Crafts Guild; a member of the
Michigan Guild of Artists and Artisans; member of the Noble
County Arts and Crafts Guild; a member of the Yankee Peddler
Foundation, and honored as its Craftsman of the Year in 1997;
and he was a member of the Noble County Performing Arts and
the Noble County Chamber of Commerce. He was a former mem-
ber of the Ohio Education Association and the National Education
Association. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife of 38
years, Beth Wood Saling whom he married 6/11/1966; 2 brothers
Kenny (Janet) Saling, and Denver ''Butch'' (Debbie) Saling, both of
Caldwell; 3 sisters Sheila (Jim) Serdy of Belle Valley, Becky Saling
and Christy (Rick) Postelthwait both of Caldwell; a sister-in-law
Barb (Darrell) Secrest of Shelby; 12 nieces & nephews; 1 grand-
nephew and 4 grand-nieces. Friends may call Saturday (7/31/2004) from 2 to 4 and 7
to 9 PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell,
Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Sunday (8/1/2004) at 2 PM at
the Caldwell United Methodist Church, 537 Main Street, Caldwell,
Ohio with Pastors Larry Hukill & Gary Fitzgerald officiating. Burial
will follow at Olive Cemetery. The family requests memorials be
made to the Caldwell Exempted Village Schools Art Department or
to the Noble County Historical Society Jail Project. Envelopes will
be available at the funeral home.


Kenneth Clemence Saling

Kenneth C. “Kenny” Saling age 61 of Caldwell, OH passed away Thursday January 21st, 2010 surrounded by his loving family, following a lengthy battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was born May 28th, 1948 in Noble County, Ohio a son of Margie Crum Saling of Caldwell and the late Bernard J. Saling. Kenny served and protected our Nation in the U.S. Army. He was formerly employed as a Land Surveyor for the County and State of Ohio. He enjoyed wood carving in his spare time. In addition to his Father he is preceded in death by two brothers William R. Saling and Denver A. “Butch” Saling. Surviving are his wife Janet C. Sholtis Saling of the home, whom he married August 5th, 1967; Son Doug B. Saling of Caldwell; Mother Margie Crum Saling of Caldwell; Three Sisters Sheila (James) Serdy of Belle Valley, OH, Becky Saling and Christy (Rick) Postlethwait both of Caldwell; Sisters-In-Law Beth Saling and Sandra (Bill) Wheeler both of Caldwell; Brother-In-Law David (Althea) Sholtis of Highland, IL. He was also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends. Friends will be received Sunday January 24th, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A Funeral Service will be held Monday at 1:00 PM in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Powell Officiating. Frances N. French

Frances N. Martin, age 91, of Caldwell died Thursday
morning July 8, 2004 at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical
Center, Cambridge. She was born December 1, 1912 in Athens, Ohio a daughter
of the late Harry and Alta French Nichols. She was a graduate of Athens
High School and Ohio University with a Bachelors in Education and had
completed some post graduate studies. She was a retired employee of the
Caldwell Exempted Village Schools with 36 1/2 years of service as an
elementary teacher and principal. She was a member of the Caldwell
United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Home-
builders Sunday School Class. She was active in the Noble County Retired
Teachers Association, the Noble County Business and Professional Women's
Association, the Women's Literary Club, was a member of several Bridge
Clubs and was the last surviving member of the HTH Bridge Club, was a
volunteer for art on the square in Caldwell and the tourist information center
at the Noble County Fairgrounds, and the Noble County Preforming Arts. She
was a former member of the national and Ohio education associations. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin P. Wood on
January 22, 1960 and her second husband, Floyd E. Martin on September 30,
1973 and one brother; Charles Nichols. She is survived by 2 daughters; Barbara W. (Darrell) Secrest of Shel-
by, Ohio, Beth W. (Bill) Sailing of Caldwell, 3 grandchildren; Brent (Jennifer)
Secrest of Wilson, N.C.,Eric (Jennifer) Secrest of Westerville, Michele (Mark)
Deutchman of Austell, Ga.; 4 Great-grandchildren; Alexander, Elizabeth &
Emma Secrest and Jamie Deutchman; 2 sisters-in-law; Jane Wood of Athens
and Doris Martin of Castalia; Several neices and nephews. Friends may call at the McVay-Perkins Funeral Home on Saturday
(7/10/2004) from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Funeral Services will be held at the Caldwell
United Methodist Church on Sunday (7/11/2004) at 2 pm with Revs. Larry
