Herbert Earl Dover

In 1930, Herbert Dover (43) rented a house for $35 a month at 1643 Edwards Ave. NE in Canton, Stark County, Ohio. He lived there with his wife Ella (32) and children Helen (13), Ralph (11), Raymond (11), Dorothy (7), Marie (5), Herbert (3), and Clara (1). The oldest four children attended school. Edward and his parents were born in Ohio. Edward, who was not a veteran, worked as a shearer in a sheet mill. The Dover family did not own a radio set.

Obituary:
Herbert E. Dover, age 83, of Canton, died in the Ilg Nursing Home Friday, May 2
[1969]. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John (Mary E.) Simon of Louisville. Services
were Monday with burial in Calvary Cemetery.


Ella Dora Johanning

According to the 1910 census, Ellen Johanning attended school and worked as a cook.


Herbert J. Dover

Obituary:
Herbert J. Dover, age 76, of Canton, passed away Friday afternoon in Mercy Medical Center. Mr. Dover was born April 12, 1927 in Canton and had lived in our area all of his life. Preceded in death by his parents, Herbert E. and Ella (Johanning) Dover, a sister, Helen Stanley and a brother, Ralph Dover. He retired from Republic Steel Corp. of Canton and a former member of St. Paul's Catholic Church of Canton, VFW Post #3747 of Canton, and the American Legion #548 of Louisville. He served in the Navy during World War II.

Survived by four sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Davis of Canton, Rita Marciniak of Steubenville, Louise and Herman White of N. Canton, Mary and John Simon of Louisville; one brother, Raymond E. Dover of Canton; many nieces and nephews; and also a special friend, Mary Zablo of Canton.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Waltner-Simchak Funeral Home with Fr. Joseph Gleixner M.S.C. officiating. Friends may call Monday evening 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.


Joseph H. Johanning

In 1920, newly married 20 year old Joseph Johanning lived with his wife Velma (20) and infant son Joseph (4 months) in the home of his mother and two younger siblings at 1414 Harrisburg St. in Canton, Stark County, Ohio. Joseph worked as a carpenter in a lumber yard.

In 1930, Joseph Johanning (29) rented a house for $30 a month on Tuscarawas Ave. East Extension in Canton. He lived there with his wife Velma (27) and children Joseph (11), Katherine (9), Betty (7), and Marie (5). The oldest three children attended school. Joseph worked as a building carpenter; his wife was employed as an inspector in a roller bearing plant. Fellow Fulda descendant and carpenter Henry Biedenbach lived just down the street.


Velma Lazzarine

Velma and her mother were born in Ohio; her father was from Italy. In 1930, Velma was employed as an inspector at a roller bearing plant.


Francis C. Johanning

In 1930, Francis Johanning owned a home worth $5000 at 2018 21st Street NE in Canton, Stark County, Ohio. He lived there with his wife Madonna (24), son Richard J. (1 yr, 2 mos), mother Mary (61), and sister Minnie (26). The Johannings also had a boarder. Francis was employed as a cabinet maker in a lumber yard. The Johanning family owned a radio set.


Madonna A. Risher

According to the 1930 census, Madonna and her mother were born in Pennsylvania. Her father was born in Ohio.

Madonna A. (Risher) Johanning, age 95, of N. Canton, passed away from this life on March 26, 2001. She was a woman of quiet dignity, simple pleasures and deep devotion to God and family. Madonna was born in 1905 in Homestead, PA, but spent most of her life in Canton.
A homemaker, she was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Canton and the Altar and Rosary Society. Madonna taught everyone in her family about God, not by words alone but my how she lived-simply, generously-always thankful for family and friends, her blessings. She was noted for her chocolate cakes with pink icing, blueberry pies and gentle nature. She will be long remembered for her ability to make everyone feel so special. Madonna passed peacefully at home with her small wooden cross in hand.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Red; son, Richard Jack; sisters, Gertrude Leyman and Margaret Reed; brother, John Risher; and grandson, John Carroll. Among those surviving her death are daughters, Lavonne Johanning of N. Canton and Anne Carroll of Canton; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Barbara Johanning of Sarasota, FL; daughter-in-law, Cathy Johanning of Canton; brother and sister-in-law, James and Inez Risher of Arlington, TX; sister-in-law, Ellen Risher of Tallahassee, FL; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church in Canton with Fr. Nicholas Mancini as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday (tonight) 6-9 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Catholic Church of Canton or to Aultman Hospice.

Harold John Schoeppner

HARRIETTSVILLE -- Mr. and Mrs. Harold Schoeppner,
Miss Helen Baker, and Mrs. C. H. Schoeppner shopped at
Zanesville Saturday.

Harold and Ethel Schoeppner lived in Lower Salem, Washington
Co., OH where he owned and operated the Cream Station for
several years. He worked at Remington Rand in Marietta, OH
from 1943 to 1955. He was politically active in Lower Salem,
where he served as councilman, treasurer, clerk, and mayor
of the city. He was in the insurance business for 34 years and
a Notary Public for 20 years. Harold J. Schoeppner was em-
ployed by the Lower Salem Commercial Bank from 1955 until
1987 rising through the ranks to become Vice President of the
bank, and later Secretary of the Board of Directors.

Harold and Ethel were members of St. Henry's Church in Harriettsville, Noble Co., OH until they moved to Marietta in 1981. There, they attended St. Mary's Catholic Church.


Ethel Bell Baker

MARIETTA WOMAN TO CELEBRATE 90TH BIRTHDAY
Ethel Schoeppner of Marietta will be celebrating her 90th birthday on Monday. She was
born June 2, 1913, in Lower Salem to Charles O. and Cynthia A. Britton Baker. She married
Harold J. Schoeppner Sept. 10, 1930. He is now deceased.
She has two children: Charles E. Schoeppner and his wife, Betty, and Joann Schoeppner
Cummings and her husband, Alfred, both of Marietta. She also has nine grandchildren and 15
great-grandchildren.
She resides at Jaycee Estates I, 1689 Colegate Drive No. 117, Marietta, Ohio 45750.

Joann is the author of several books on SE Ohio genealogies (Schoeppner, Estadt).

Vernon Ray Schott

The following article appeared in the Zanesville Signal on Nov 27, 1953 CALDWELL -- Zedrick Junior Clark and Vernon Schott were the two voluntary inductees who filled the November Noble draft quota. They left for service with the armed forces on Monday. there will not be an armed forces physical examination call this month. Clark is the son of Mr. and Mrs Zedrick Clark, Caldwell, route 1, and Schott is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Schott of Caldwell, Route 4.
