Roger Jude Schockling

There was 36 inches of snow on the ground -- up to the fence post -- when Roger was born. His father went down to the Ashton Inn (a saloon) to get Dr. Thompason to deliver the baby.

Roger's middle name was chosen by his mother, who had prayed to St. Jude, patron saint of hopeless causes. Gertrude had prayed to St. Jude to ask his intercession with Igatz' bum knee.

Roger's childhood family nickname, given to him by his brother, was Hoguy

Roger Schockling was a member of the Fulda high school graduating class of 1953. There were five graduates in the class, making it the smallest graduating class in Noble County that year.

Karen Ann Snider

According to her husband, Karen Snider is not related to the Snider family of Fulda, Ohio.


Paul Kenneth Schultheis

Kenny was killed instantly while alone in a Volkswagen that ran into the rear of a parked 2-ton truck on Moxahala avenue near the Gould Battery plant in Zanesville.


Geneva Barbara Schockling

Childhood family nickname: Wolly Wolly Wolfman

In second grade, Geneva took a quarter from her mother's dresser without her mother's knowledge. Geneva took the quarter to Snider's store at lunchtime and bought a supply of wooden pencils. That afternoon, Sister Bernarda questioned Geneva about all the pencils. Sister Bernarda called Mrs. Schockling to report the incident. Geneva does not remember what the consequences of the incident were.

Jenny was deathly afraid of snakes. Her siblings teased her unmercifully about snakes rustling in the leaves.

From childhood, Geneva always wanted to become a nurse. She also learned to cook and can vegetables and fruit at a young age.

Jenny was Valdictorian of her high school class. On 31 Aug 1956, The Zanesville Signal reported that Geneva Schockling of Caldwell entered the Good Samaritan School of Nursing.

The custom of open church will be observed at the wedding
of Miss Geneva Schockling, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. R.
Schockling of Caldwell Route 1, and Paul Kenneth Schultheis,
Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schultheis of 334 Jessamine street.
The marriage will be solemnized at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in St.
Nicholas Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. J. J. Donaldson of
Fulda officiating at the double ring rites.
Following the ceremony and nuptial high mass a reception
will be given by the bride's parents at the home of the parents
of the bridegroom.
Miss Schockling has asked her sister, Miss Phyllis Schockling,
to serve as maid of honor. Bridesmaids will be Miss Polly
Schultheis, sister of the bridegroom, Miss Ruth Soller and Miss
Jean Gerko, classmates of the bride-elect.
David Haren will serve as best man. Guests will be seated
by the bride's brother, roger Schockling, James Kobunski and
Steve Hall.
Miss Schockling is a member of the class which will be
graduated from Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing
on Sept. 6. she graduated from Caldwell High School.
Mr. Schultheis graduated from Rosecrans High School. Both
he and the bride-elect are members of the church in which they
will be married. The bridegroom is employed by Citizens
National Bank.

ZANESVILLE -- Geneva B. Schultheis, 63, of Zanesville, died Friday
(Dec. 21, 2001) following a sudden illness. She was born March 2, 1938,
in Fulda, daughter of the late Ignatz and Gertrude (Schwallie) Schockling.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and a 1956 graduate
of the Caldwell High School and also the Good Samaritan School of Nursing,
in 1959.
She retired from Good Samaritan Medical Center, where she served as
registered nurse. She was a member of the Good Samaritan Alumni Asso-
ciation, the Muskingum County Right To Life Association and St. Nicholas
St. Vincent DePaul Society.
She served as a eucharistic minister to the Homebound and was active in
the tutoring program at the McKinley School. She volunteered at St. Nicholas
School Cafeteria and Christ Table.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie McGlade; a sister, Phyllis
M. Hill; and a brother, Virgil Schockling.
She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Beth) D'Antonio of Columbus; a son,
Michael K. (Shelley) Schultheis of Westerville; eight grandchildren; a sister,
Mrs. Carl (Patricia) Fox of Columbus; three brothers, James (Shirley)
Schockling of Groveport, Roger (Karen) Schockling of Jacksonville, Fla.
and Clair (Janet) Schockling of Caldwell; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Schockling
of Zanesville, Polly and Frank Russo of Mansfield, Dottie and Tom Durant of
Zanesville; two brothers-in-law, William J. Hill of Zanesville, and Stanley
Schultheis of Loveland, Colo.; and her mother-in-law, Florence Schultheis.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, at the Hillis Funeral
Home, Zanesville, where a Christian Vigil will be 5:30 p.m. Services will be
10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with the Rev.
Fr. James C. Csaszar officiating. Burial will be in Olive Cemetery, Zanesville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Muskingum County Chapter Right

Clair Joseph Schockling

Childhood family nickname: Butch

Clair initially had to walk to Michel's to get the school bus. Starting with his second year of school, the bus came past the Schockling home. The Schockling were the first ones on the bus in the morning, and the first ones off in the afternoon.

Clair Schockling was a member of the Caldwell high school class of 1958. He was living in Caldwell, Noble Co., OH in Dec 2001.

Phyllis Marie Schockling

Childhood family nickname: Poverty Grass

Phyllis was the "candy mother" among her siblings. She took on the role of dividing up what little candy the children ever had.

Phyllis also insisted on having the coveted "housey spoon" at each meal. (The "housey spoon" was a spoon that had an imprint of a house on the handle.) Phyllis would go around the table after it was set and trade spoons after finding her housey spoon. Of course, the person setting the table would disregard Phyliss's claim on the housey spoon.

MISS SCHOCKLING IS NAMED QUEEN
CALDWELL, O. -- Miss Phyllis Schockling of the Fulda community,
will be crowned homecoming queen at the annual Veteran's Day foot-
ball game, between Caldwell and McConnelsville, on Tuesday, Nov.
11.
Members of Miss Schockling's court include: Sharon Chiwak,
freshman; Grace Keith, Sophomore, Joy Willey, senior and Janice
Loop, junior.

Florence Margaret Milstead

ZANESVILLE -- Florence Margaret Schultheis, 92, formerly of Jessamine Street, Zanesville, peacefully passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2003. She was born Dec. 17, 1910, in Zanesville to the late Christopher and Mary McCabe Milstead. A 1929 graduate of St. Nicholas High School and a 1932 graduate of Good Samaritan School of Nursing, Florence worked as a Registered Nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville for many years. She was a life-long member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, a member of the Senior Citizens, Good Samaritan Alumni Association and the St. Nicholas Women's Guild. Florence was preceded in death by her husband and best friend of 52 years, Paul Kenneth Schultheis Sr., who died Sept. 16, 1985; a daughter, Sister Mary Lina Schultheis; a son, Paul Kenneth "Kenny" Schultheis Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Geneva B. Schultheis; and granddaughter, Julie Schultheis McGlade. She is survived by loving daughters and sons-in-law, Polly and Frank Russo of Mansfield, Dottie and Tom Durant of Zanesville; a son, Stanley Schultheis of Loveland, Colo.; grandchildren, Beth (Frank) D'Antonio of Reynoldsburg, Heidi Durant and Abigail Durant of Columbus, Bibianne (Douglas) Galuzny of Delaware, Mike (Shelley) Schultheis of Westerville; 10 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the Hillis Funeral Home, 935 Forest Ave., where the Christian Vigil will be held at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Father Charles Klinger as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery, Zanesville. Family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 925 E. Beda Joseph Michel

Obituary:
Bede J. Michel, age 72, of 930 Mill St., Louisville passed away Monday
afternoon [13 Jun 1977] at his home following a short illness.
Born in Noble County March 3, 1905, to the late Leonard and Eva Dimmerling
Michel, he lived in the Louisville area 42 years. He was retired from Republic
Steel Co. in 1971 and worked as a millrite for many years. He was a member of St.
Louis Catholic Church and the Louisville K of C Council No. 2530.
He is survived by his wife, Frieda A. (Schafer) of the home; four daughters, Mrs.
James (Alverna) Kline of Ravenna, Mrs. Richard (Ardell) Bolanz of Minerva, Mrs.
Clair (Janet) Shockling of Caldwell, and Mrs. Robert J. (LaVera) Paumier of Louisville;
one brother, Roy Michel of Canton; three sisters, Mrs. Cora Schindler of Massillon,
Mrs. Ella Weisend of Louisville, and Mrs. Hilda Shockling of Canton; 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry, in 1968.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held this morning, Thursday, at 11 AM in St.
Louis Church with burial in the church cemetery. Friends called at the Paquelet Funeral
Home Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. K of C services were conducted at the
funeral home on Wednesday at 7 PM.


Frieda Amelia Schafer

The following wedding announcement appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on May 15, 1930: The marriage of Miss Frieda Shafer and Beda Michel has been announced as taking place on May 6th at 9 o'clock in the Immaculate church at Fulda with Rev J B Mattes reading the ceremony, Miss Eleanor Hupp acted as bridesmaid and Earl Michel as best man. The bride was charmingly gowned in white with accessories to match. the bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Shafer and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Michel, all of near Caldwell. both are popular with a wide circle of friends. Following the wedding ceremony a wedding dinner of lovely appointments was served to a large number of guests at the home of the bride's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Michel will reside near Fulda and are receiving congratulations from their many friends.


Obituary:
Frieda A. Michel, age 83, of 930 South Mill Street, Louisville, OH passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12 [1990] at Timken Mercy Medical Center following a short illness. Born in Fulda, Ohio, June 21, 1907, she lived in Stark County for 55 years and was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar and Rosary and Columbus Women’s Club.
She is survived by four daughters: Mrs. James (Alverna) Kline of Ravenna, Mrs. Richard (Ardell) Bolanz of Minerva, Mrs. Clair (Janet) Schockling of Caldwell, and Mrs. Robert (LaVera) Paumier of Louisville; 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Beda J. Michel in 1977.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Louis Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Calling hours were on Friday in the Paquelet Funeral Home. St. Ann’s and the Columbus Women’s Club held services at the funeral home.
