Pierre was 38 years old when he emigrated from Rimling France to the United States in 1847. He emigrated with his wife, sister-in-law and six children. Cost of Passport was 2 francs. He left from Le Havre, France and landed in New York.

In 1850, Peter Kuhn (44) owned real estate worth $360 in Malaga Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. Other members of the Kuhn family in the household were Catherine (43) and children Henrietta (16), John (14) Nicholas (11), Peter (10), Michael (8), Oliver (6), Simon (3) and Joseph (1). There was also a 63 year old woman named Elizabeth Backard living with the family. Catherine Kuhn's maiden name (Beckerich) is sometimes anglicized to "Baker," however, the relationship between Elizabeth Backard and Catherine Beckerich Kuhn is unknown. Everyone in the home was a native of Germany except Simon and Joseph, who were born in Ohio.

In 1860, Peter Kuehn (54) lived in Seneca Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with Catherine (52), John (22), Nicholas (20), Nick (16), Elias (15), Simon (13), and Joseph (11) Kuehn, Mariah Baker (76) and Ann Kuehn (18). Ann is believed to be the wife of John Kuehn, since both have a tick mark in the column "married within the year." Everyone in the household was a native of France except Simon and Joseph, who were born in Ohio. The Kuhn farm was valued at $1400, and the family's personal possessions were worth $600.

At the time of the 1870 census, Peter Kuhn (63) owned a farm worth $4700 in Seneca Twp. Other members of the household were Catherine (62) Simon (22) and Joseph Kuhn (21) and Elizabeth Baker (80). Simon and Joseph were born in Ohio; the others were all natives of France. The Kuhn's daughter, Hannah Kuhn Burkhart, lived in the adjacent household in the census. The other adjacent household was that of Dominick Baker (46). The relationship (if any) between Elizabeth Baker and Dominick Baker is not known.

In 1880, Peter and Katherine Kuhn (both 79) lived in Seneca Twp. Adjacent farms belonged to widower Dominick Baker and Peter's son Elias. According to the census, Peter and Katherine were both born in Germany.

Catherine Beckerich

Researcher Linda Kay Anderson has Catherine's surname as Baker or Becker. Betty Hartley has Baker.

Michael Kuhn

Researcher Jo-Anna Wright refers to this child as John Nicholas. However, the 8 year old child in the household of Peter Kuhn in 1850 is named Michael.

There is no 18 year old boy in the Kuhn household in 1870, nor is there anyone named Michael.
