John Kullman

John Michael came near being killed last Friday [16 Dec 1881]. John Cullman,
his hired man, was engaged in clearing timber land and a tree which he was
chopping down fell upon Mr. Michael, fracturing his skull. Mr. Cullman is not
to be censured as he did not see Michael approaching in time to warn him of
danger. He is doing well as could be expected.

John Kullman was living in Wheeling at the time of his brother Henry's death in 1934.

Mrs. Joseph Crum, the informant for the death certificate of John Kullman, may have been his niece, Pluma Kullman Crum, the daughter of John's brother William.


Joseph Mantel

In 1880, 16 year old Joseph Mantel lived with the family of his uncle, Henry Snider in Stock Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Henry was the half-brother of Joseph's mother, Mary Barbara Snider Mantel.


OBITUARY:
Joseph Mantel, one of the excellent citizens of Enoch Twp, died Saturday, aged 34 years. The deceased had been a worthy resident of that section. Consumption ended his useful life. He leaves a wife and one child to mourn his loss. Funeral services were held Monday, conducted by Rev. Bede Hanson. Interment at Fulda cemetery.

Joseph Mantel

Edgar G. Morris

In 1920, Edgar G. Morris (36) rented a home on South Main Street in Caldwell Village, Olive Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Living with him were his wife Anna (24), and children Daniel (4), William (3), and Mary (5 mos). Edgar worked as a mine worker in Cambridge.


Anna M. Mehler

In 1930, widow Anna M. Morris (34) rented a house in Belle Valley, Noble Township, Noble County for $8 a month. She lived there with her children, Daniel G. (14), William H. (13), and Mary L. (10), all of whom attended school. Also living in the household was a widowed lodger, Welschman David Jones (48), who worked in a coal mine. Anna was not employed. Most of their neighbors were of Eastern European descent: Czechoslovakian or Croatian

Obituary:
MRS. MORRIS DIES
CALDWELL -- Mrs. Anna Morris, 42, widow of Ed Morris,
died at the White Cross hospital, Columbus, Tuesday evening following
a lingering illness of three years. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Mehler of the Fulda community. She lived for several years here
before moving to Columbus. Her husband died 12 years ago.
Surviving are three children, William, Daniel, and Mary of the
home, and the following brothers and sisters, Rose Mehler, and Mrs.
Hilda Gordon, both of Caldwell, Mrs. Eldon Hiser, Toledo, Miss Amelia
Mehler and Mrs. Lucy Wickam, Zanesville; William and Frances Mehler,
Woodsfield; Andrew and Albert Mehler, Dexter City.
The body will be returned to Caldwell and burial will be here.


Francis Henry Mehler

On 12 Sep 1918, 19 year old farmer Francis Henry Miller of Route #3, Dexter City, Noble County, Ohio registered for the US military draft at the local draft board in Caldwell. He stated that he was born on May 24th, 1899. His nearest relative (and also his employer) was Jos. L. Miller of the same address. Francis was described as being tall and slender with blue eyes and brown hair.

At the time of the 1930 census, Francis and Josephine Mahler rented a home in Center Twp., Monroe Co., Ohio for $5 a month. . Francis worked as a carpenter in the building industry. According to the census, the couple had been married about a year. There were no children in the household.

Francis Mehler’s obituary was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 18 Jan 1972:
Francis H. Mehler, 72, of Woodsfield Route 2, a retired carpenter,
died Sunday evening at his home following a long illness.
He was born in Noble County, May 24 1899, a son of Joseph and
Clara Craft Mehler. Mr. Mehler was a member of St. Sylvester Catholic
Church at Woodsfield and its Holy Name Society.
Surviving are his widow, Josephine Mehler; two sons, Bernard Mehler
of Stow and Harvey Mehler of Woodsfield; three daughters, Mrs. James
(Mary) Greer of Stow, Mrs. Robert (Virginia) Boughter of Ashland, and
Miss Margaret Mehler of the home; three brothers, Albert Mehler of
Caldwell, William Mehler of Woodsfield, and Andrew Mehler of Barnes-
ville; four sisters, Mrs. Lucy Wickham of Fairview road, Mrs. Hilda Quade
of Burton, Miss Amelia and Miss Veronica Mehler, both of Caldwell;
and 18 grandchildren. An infant son, a brother and three sisters are
deceased.
Friends may call at Michener funeral home in Woodsfield where
the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today.
Requiem mass will be solemnized at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St.
Sylvester Church with Msgr. Robert A. Brown as celebrant. Burial
will be in the church cemetery.

Margaret Mehler Hiser’s obituary was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 20 Jun 1964:
Mrs. Margaret Hiser, 63, of Columbus, sister of Mrs. Lucy Wickham of
Dresden, died unexpectedly late Thursday in a Columbus hospital. She
had been in ill health. She was born in Dexter City in August 1900.
Surviving are four other sisters, Misses Veronica Mehler of Barnesville,
Rose and Amelia Mehler of Dexter City and Mrs. Hilda Quade of Cleveland;
four brothers, Francis and William Mehler of Woodsfield, Andrew of Barnes-
ville, and Albert of Dexter City. A brother and sister are deceased.
The body will remain at Jerry Speer funeral home, West Broad street,
Columbus until services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Agnes Catholic
Church in Columbus. Burial will be in that city.

Margaret Mehler Hiser’s obituary was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 20 Jun 1964:
Mrs. Margaret Hiser, 63, of Columbus, sister of Mrs. Lucy Wickham of

The dates of children's birth support the former date as the date of marriage.

The "Real Estate Transfers" column on pg 8 of The Zanesville Signal ( 9 Jul 1947) stated:
Mary E. and Taylor Wickham to Lawrence and Lucy Wickham, 61.92 acres in Salt
Creek township.

Another real estate transfer reported on page 7-A of The Zanesville Signal (28 Aug 1957) recorded the following transaction:
Lawrence and Lucy Wickham to Albert J. and Doris M. Dennis, a lot in Mary E. Richards
subdivision, Springfield subdivision.
