Otto John Hupp

In 1930, 32 year old Otto J. Hupp rented a house at 38 Jordan Ave., Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio for $15 a month. He lived there with his wife Florence (24), son Robert (4 yrs, 5 mos) and infant daughter Josephine (11 mos). Also living in the house was a 28 year old umarried boarder named Joseph Levandofsky. Otto was a laborer in a radiator factory. His brother Clarence lived a few doors away.

Florence may not have been Otto's first wife. One of the questions in the 1930 census is "age at first marriage." Florence -- who was 24 at the time of the census -- was 18 when she was first married. Otto, who was 34, was 16 when he was first married. Either the census taker mistakenly wrote "16" instead of "26" or Otto was married to someone before he married Florence. Records at St. Mary's church in Fulda (where Otto was baptized) show only one marriage, but a marriage outside the Catholic church might not have been recorded there.
