Rita M. Blend

Obituary:
Rita M. Stark, of Canton, OH, went to be with the Lord on
Monday, July 18, 2005. She was a life long member of St.
Joseph Catholic Church of Canton. She was a retired beautician
whose greatest enjoyment was spending time baking and
sharing that with her family and friends. She was a member
of St. Charles Court Catholic Order of Foresters #851.
Preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Mildred
and Louis Blend; a sister, Dolores Ronskee; a brother, Lavern
J. Blend. She leaves behind a sister-in-law, Mary J. Blend; a
nephew and nieces and very dear and special friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2005
at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Canton. Memorial
donations may be made to the Santa Clara Monastery or the
Stark County Humane Society.


Lavern J. Blend

Obituary:
Lavern J. Blend, age 82, passed away October 17,
2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Canton
April 5, 1922, to the late Louis and Mildred Blend.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and
friend to many. He graduated from Timken High School
where he chose a career in printing. A World War II veteran,
where he was an Army paratrooper and a member of the
101 First Airborn. Married to Mary (Christea) Blend. They
recently celebrated 57 years of marriage.
He leaves behind two daughters and sons-in-law,
Dorrie Jean and John C. Muller of Pierson, FL, Debbie
and Tom Serra of North Canton; and a son and daughter-
in-law, Dan and Tammy Blend of North Canton; five grand-
children, Chuck, Joe, Brian, Hollie and Jason; three step-
grandchildren; a sister, Rita Stark of Canton.
Preceded in death by a sister, Dolores Ronsky and
a daughter-in-law, Joan Gulling Blend.
He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters,
St. Charles Court #851. He played an active role in the family
business at The House of Flowers. The main enjoyment in
Lavern’s life was his devotion to his family whom he loved
so much. One of his greatest joys was to spend time at his
home or on his land on his tractor.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday 1 p.m.
at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Rev. Edward
Beneleit. Burial at North Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be
held Wednesday (today) 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Welch-Sekeres-
Lewis Funeral Home.

Mr. and Mrs. Maurice G. Karl, 236 Laird SE, announce the engagement of their daughter Irene to Sgt. Edward J. Hughes, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Hughes of 235 9th St., Troy, N. Y.
Miss Karl is a graduate of Harding High School and is employed as window decorator for the Strouss-Hirshberg Co.
Sgt. Hughes is a graduate of Troy Catholic High School and attended Sienna College in Albany, N. Y. He is now stationed at Camp Reynolds.
No date has been set for the wedding.

The wedding of Miss Irene Karl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Karl,236 Laird SE, and Sgt. Edward J. Hughes, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Hughes,2263 Sixth Ave., Troy, N. Y., was solemnized June 17th at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Rev Joseph A. Gaiganski performed the double ring ceremony. The organ was played by Miss Louise Knowles and the Children's Choir sang the nuptial mass and "Ave Maria."
Attending the bride was Miss Elizabeth Karl as maid of honor, and the best man was Robert Karl.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, was gowned in a white dotted silk marquisette, designed with a sweetheart neckline, full skirt and brush train. She wore a fingertip veil of illusion held in place with a coronet of orange blossoms, and carried an arm bouquet of white roses and stephanotis.
The maid of honor wore a gown of pink silk marquisette with a sweetheart neckline and very full skirt. Her flowers were blue larkspur and pink roses.
A wedding breakfast for the immediate families was held at the bride's home. A reception for 75 relatives and friends was held at the Karl home in the evening. Miss Margaret Moran and Mrs. Charles H. Bode, Jr., presided at the bridal table.
The couple left on a honeymoon trip, their destination not revealed. Traveling the bride wore a powder blue butcher linen suit with black accessories and an orchid corsage.
Mrs. Hughes was graduated from the Harding High School. She is the display manager at the local Strouss-Hirshberg Company. The groom is a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy and attended Siena College, Albany, N. Y. He is stationed at Camp Reynolds, Greenville, Pa.
Among out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Hughes, Troy, N. Y., parents of the groom.

that Edward J. Hughes is a Registered Pharmacist in conformity with
Acts of the Legislature of the State of Florida, regulating the
practice of pharmacy and the sale of poisons therein and imposing
penalties for violations."


ANNIVERSARY NOTICE IN THE ST. PETERSBURG TIMES:

Edward J. and Irene K. Hughes celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family mass in Our Lady's Chapel at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle. The mass was con-celebrated by their son, the Rev. Dennis Hughes, and the Rev. Monsignor Bernard Caverly.
They were married on June 17, 1944, at St. Mary's Church in Warren, Ohio. They moved to Florida in 1946 and lived in several cities before settling in St. Petersburg.
Mr. Hughes is a retired pharmacist.
They have a son, two daughters and two granddaughters.


OBITUARY FOR EDWARD JAMES HUGHES

Hughes, Edward J., 75, of St. Petersburg died Saturday (Nov. 19, 1994) at St. Petersburg General Hospital. He came here in 1945 from his native Troy, N.Y. A registered pharmacist with the Liggett and Suprex Drug companies for 25 years, he was a graduate of the University of Florida. He was active at Holy Cross Catholic Church and Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle. A member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, he was past district deputy and a charter member and past grand knight of Father Lopez Council 5737 Knights of Columbus. He also was a former member of Midtown Kiwanis Club of St. Petersburg. During World War II, he served in the Army. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Irene Karl; a son, the Rev. Dennis E. Hughes, Tampa; two daughters, Karla H. Busciglio, Bradenton, and Marie Ann Hughes, St. Petersburg; and two granddaughters. Thomas J. Brett Funeral Home, St. Petersburg.

Karla Hughes and Joseph T. Busciglio were married Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Church.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs Edward J. Hughes, 6335 41st Ave. N. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dominic C. Busciglio of Bradenton. The bride is a graduate of Notre Dame Academy, St. Petersburg Junior College and is attending the University of South Florida (USF), College of nursing. She is employed by Dr. Paul L. Summers.
The bridegroom is a graduate of Manatee High School (Bradenton) and USF. He is employed by Health and Rehabilitative Services, Sarasota County. They will live in Bradenton.
