Theodore Bishop

In 1900, Theodore Bishop (34) and his wife Magie (30) owned a farm in Reading Twp., Perry County, Ohio. They had been married three years, but had no children. Theodore's first cousin, John Roehrig (13), lived with them. Three doors away in the census lived fellow Fulda natives John L. and Elizabeth (Schoeppner) Noll.

At the time of the 1910 census, Theodore and Maggie Bishop lived on a farm in Pike Twp., Perry County, Ohio. They had no children.

Obituary from the Louisville Herald, page 1, 31 May 1945:
Theodore Bishop, 79, former Louisville resident, died
Sunday at his home in New Lexington, Ohio. He is survived by
two brothers, John and Leonard of Louisville, and two sisters,
Mrs. Otillia Smithberger and Mrs. Mary Ella Becker of Lower
Salem, Ohio.
Services were held on Tuesday. Attending the funeral
from Louisville were Mr. and Mrs. John Bishop, Leonard Bishop
and son, Edward, and Mrs. Anna Bishop.


Margaret E. Young

According to the 1900 census, Margaret and her mother were born in Ohio. Her father was a native of Germany. Margaret is not mentioned as a survivor in her husband's obituary, nor were any surviving children listed.

Margaret Young Bishop's death certificate states that her breast cancer was diagnosed in 1932. She had a breast removed in 1933, but the cancer metastasized to her abdomen.


Mary Bishop

From the Zanesville Signal, 4 Oct 1928:
HARRIETTSVILLE -- Mrs.T. J. Smithberger and Martha
Painter spent Monday afternoon with the former's sister, Mrs. H.
S. Becker.


Gilbert J. Becker

Gilbert Becker never married.


Casper Bettinger

Twenty-six year old Casper Bettinger did not live with his parents and siblings at the time of the 1900 census.


John Bettinger

In 1900, 22 year old John Bettinger lived and worked lived on his parents' farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County Ohio. He spoke English, but could not read or write.


Minnie Ellen Shimp

According to the 1930 census, Minnie was 19 years old when she first married.

obituary from Sandusky, Ohio newspaper:
Mrs. Millie Ellen Love, a resident of Sandusky for the past 20 years at 1302 Third,
St. died late Wednesday afternoon at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Brockley, 1311 First St., after a two months' illness. She was aged 60 years,
seven months and 23 days. Mrs. Love was a member of the St. Stephens' Evangelical
Church. Surviving besides the daughter, Mrs. Brockley, are two sons, Pfc. Arthur Love, U.S.
Army, San Diego, Cal., and Charles Bettinger, Sandusky, three grandchildren, and two
brothers, Ernest and Grover Schimp, both of Columbus. The body is at the Charles J. Andres Sons' Funeral Home. Services will be Monday
afternoon with arrangements to be announced later. Dr. H.E. Pheiffer will conduct services
for Mrs. Minnie Ellen Love at 2 p.m. Monday at the Charles J. Andres Sons' Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.


Alexander B. Bettinger

In 1900, 19 year old Alexander Bettinger lived and worked on his parents' farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County Ohio. His nickname was pronounced "Alec" (not Alex).

At the time of the 1910 census, 29 year old Alexander Bittenger lived on a rented farm in Enoch Twp. with his 28 year old wife Ida and their infant daughter Bulah (11 mos). Adjacent farms in the census belonged to Frank Saling and Alex's parents.

On 12 Sep 1918, 36 year old self-employed farmer Alex B. Bettinger filled out a US Draft Registration card in Caldwell, Ohio. He stated that his nearest relative was Ida Bettinger of Rt. #4, Caldwell, Ohio. He was described as being of medium height and build with black eyes and brown hair. The registration notes that Alex was blind in one eye.

From the Caldwell Press, 1 Jan 1919:
MIDDLEBURG -- C C Hayes and wife called on Alex Bettinger and
family Sunday afternoon.

According to the 1920 census, Alexander Beddinger (37) and his wife Ida (37) owned a farm in Jefferson Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Living in the household were their children Bula (11), Clara (9), Gay and Ray (twins, 8), Walter, (7), and Helen (4 yrs 4 mos). All of the children except Helen attended school. Neighbors in the census were Norman Morrison and Caroline Brotten.

At the time of the 1930 census, Alec (49) and Ida (47) Bettinger still owned a farm in Jefferson Township. Other members of the household were Bulah (20), Clarah (19), Ray and Gay (18), Walter (16), Helen (14), Alberta (7) and Mildred (5). Only Walter, Helen and Alberta attended school. Buelah was employed as a housekeeper for a private family. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to Norman Morrison and Willam Brotton. The family did not own a radio set.

Alex Bettinger’s obituary was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 26 dec 1964:
CALDWELL - Alexander B. Bettinger, 83, of Route 4 died at 5
p.m. Wednesday at the home of a son, Ray Bettinger of Sarahsville,
after a long illness.
Mr. Bettinger was born March 13, 1881, in Noble County, and
was a retired farmer.
He was a member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church at Harrietts-
ville.
Surviving are three sons, Ray, at whose home he died, Gay, of
Lower Salem Route 3, and Walter Bettinger of Caldwell; five daugh-
ters, Mrs. Beulah Hesson of Macksburg, Clara Gildow of Route 3,
Mrs. Alberta Mallott of Route 6, Mrs. Helen Cozzens of Cambridge,
and Mrs. Katherine McCool of North Olmstead; 25 grandchildren,
26 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Andy Bettinger of near
Harriettsville.
The body was taken to McVay Funeral Home here.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 p.m. today in St. Henry’s
Catholic Church with Father Picard officiating. Burial will be in
Olive Cemetery here.


Ida Mae Springer

Name on Ohio death certificate is spelled Ada M. Bettinger.

Ida Mae Springer Bettinger's obituary appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on April 8, 1958.
NOBLE COUNTY LIFE RESIDENT SUMMONED
CALDWELL, O -- Mrs. Ida Mae Springer Bettinger, 76, of Dexter city route, near Middleburg, died Sunday evening at 7:15 in the family home following a two weeks illness.
She was born July 10, 1881, at Road Fork, a daughter of Simeon and Nancy Burton Springer. She was a life resident of Noble county and a member of the Road Fork Baptist church.
She is survived by her husband, Alex; three sons, Walter Bettinger of Ava Rt. 1, Ray of Sarahsville and Gay of Dexter City route; five daughters, Mrs. Beulah Hesson, of Macksburg, Mrs. Clara Gildow, Dexter City Rt., Mrs. Helen Cozzens, Cumberland; Mrs. Alberta Mallett, of Caldwell Rt. 6 and Mrs. Kate McCool, of North Olmstead; two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Bettinger, of Caldwell Rt. 2 and Mrs. Minnie Smith, Marietta; four brothers, William Springer, Dexter City Rt., Phillip of Alliance, Fred of Cleveland and Ed on Manua.
The body is at the McVay funeral home where it will remain until the hour of service. Funeral services Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at First Baptist church, Caldwell, with the pastor, Rev. Roy Wikander, officiating. Burial in Olive cemetery.


Ray S. Bettinger

The following note appeared in the Zanesville Signal on 23 Mar 1953:
LOADS TOO HEAVY; DRIVERS FINED
Two drivers were arrested this morning on
Sharon avenue and charted with operating trucks
carrying loads over the legal limit. Each driver was
fined in municipal court after admitting the charge.
Vinton C. Franks, 28, of Thornville, was fined
$70 and costs, and Ray S. Bettinger, 38, of Caldwell,
was fined $25 and costs.
Police said Franks’ truck was carrying coal.
Bettinger was hauling limestone.

According to the Ohio online death certificate index, Ray Bettinger was married at the time of his death. The name of his wife is not known.


Henry Bettinger

In 1900, 17 year old Henry lived and worked on his parents' farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County Ohio. Henry and Jessie Bettinger lived with Henry's parents at the time of the 1910 census (shortly after their marriage).

spent Sunday afternoon with Henry Bettinger and family.

In 1920, Henry Bettinger (37) and his wife Jessie (29) owned a farm in Enoch Twp. where they lived with their son Casper E. (9). Casper attended school. Adjacent households in the census belonged to Casper Schott and widow Matilda Crock.


Jessie G. Springer

According to the 1920 census, Jessie's father and mother were natives of Pennsylvania and Ohio, respectively.


Casper E. Bettinger

In 1920, 19 year old unmarried Casper Bettinger lived in the household of his uncle Taylor Springer, a 48 year old widower in Orange Twp., Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Also living in the household were four of Taylor's children (ranging in age from 11 to 19), and Taylor's niece Beulah Bettinger (21). The nature of the relationship between Casper and Beulah is not known. Casper worked as a farm laborer. Taylor was a teamster at a country club.

CALDWELL - Mrs. Emma Brugger has returned
