Amelia E. Smotzer

In 1910, Mollie Smotzer lived with her parents and siblings on Seddon Ave. in North Braddock, PA. She attended school that year.

Molly Smotzer Fagan did not have any children. William Ford remembers: When the three sisters got together - it was a hoot. All three of them were animated and had great senses of humor. Molly was the instigator.


John Francis Baker

The following article appeared in the Zanesville Signal 30 Jul 1943
14-YEAR-OLD BOY BITTEN BY DOG
Frank Baker, 14-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. George
Baker, of 545 Glendale avenue, sustained minor injuries
yesterday afternoon when he was bitten on the left hip by
a dog as he walked on Winton avenue.
He was treated at a local physician’s office and removed
to his home.
The youth, a newspaper carrier boy, was delivering
papers and the dog broke its chain and attacked him,
according to the police report.

This note was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 6 Aug 1953:
PHONES FROM GERMANY
Sgt. John Francis Baker, who is stationed in Germany
with the army, telephoned his mother, Mrs. George N.
Baker of 545 Glendale avenue Tuesday on his birthday.

A brief note in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 5 Dec 1965 stated that John Baker, 35, of 1234 Lake drive was teated and dismissed from Good Samaritan Hospital after he injured his left eye while hunting.

In addition to being husband and wife, John F. Baker and Barbara Heil are distantly related... they are third cousins.


Barbara Jean Heil

The wedding announcement of Barbara Heil and John F. Baker appeared in the Zanesville Signal on 2 Jul 1957:
BARBARA J. HEIL MAKES PLANS FOR HER SATURDAY WEDDING
Plans have been completed by Miss Barbara Jean Heil
and John F. Baker for their wedding which is planned for
Saturday morning in St. Nicholas Catholic church.
The Rev. Fr. Linus Drury will read the open church, double
ring rites following a half hour of organ selections by Miss
Mary Flood. Francis Korn will sing the mass.
Miss Heil, who will be escorted to the alter by her father,
has asked Miss Barbara Schaumleffel to be her maid of
honor. The bridesmaid will be Mrs. Warren Wagner.
Joseph Baker will serve his brother as best man, and
ushers will be Bernard Baker of Newark, another brother,
and Dave Wagner.
A breakfast for 34 guests will follow at Paul’s restaurant,
and the reception, which will be attended by more than 200
guests, will be held from 2 until 4 o’clock in the Hotel Rogge.
Aides will be Miss Jean Lawyer and the bride’s cousins, Misses
Carol Ann Ronning and Rose Marie Archer. Miss Rose Marie
Joseph will preside at the guest book.
Miss Heil is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Heil of
1608 Wheeling avenue. She is employed in the traffic depart-
ment of the Ohio Bell Telephone company.
Mr. Baker is employed by the American Match corporation.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George N. Baker of 545 Glendale
avenue.
Miss Heil was guest of honor at a party given Monday evening
by Miss Patricia Buchanan of Newburgh, N.Y., who entertained
with a kitchen shower at the home of her aunt, Mr. H. F. Albert
of 427 Ruth street. A green and silver color scheme was carried
out in the table decorations. Games were played during the evening.

Loren Paulus was a widower at the time of his death.


Mary Agnes Heil

Mary Agnes Heil was among 26 members of the Class of 1947 at St. Nicholas High School in Zanesville, Ohio.

The wedding announcement of Mary Agnes Heil and Loren Paulus was published in the Zanesville Signal on 31 Jul 1949:
HEIL-PAULUS WEDDING READ MONDAY MORNING
Palms and bouquets of pink and white gladioli were used on the altar of St. Nicholas Catholic church for the wedding Monday of Miss Mary Agnes Heil to Loren Paulus. The Rev. F. X. Sweitzer officiated at the double ring ceremony which was solemnized at 8:45 o’clock.
Given in marriage by her father, William Heil, the bride wore a gown of white bridal satin. Long sleeves tapered into points over the backs of the hands and tiny pearls were used to trim the sleeves and yoke. The full skirt ended in a short train. The bridal veil was edged with Chantilly lace and fell finger tip length from a crown of pearls. Starlight roses and stephanotis blossoms tied with white satin ribbon formed the bridal bouquet.
Mrs. Richard McCarty as matron of honor wore blue organza over blue taffeta, fashioned with wide sash of matching taffeta. Her headdress and bouquet were of pink roses and white daisies with blue ribbon tie.
Miss Rose Anne Heil, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid. She wore pink organza over pink taffeta and her headdress and bouquet were pink roses and white daisies tied with blue maline.
The junior bridesmaid, Miss Barbara Heil, another sister of the bride, wore orchid organza with matching slip and sash. Her flowers were yellow roses and white daisies tied with yellow mailine.
Harold Roessler attended Mr. Paulus as best man. Ushers were Charles Armbrust and Don Weaver.
A breakfast for members of the families followed at YWCA and from 1 to 3:30 o’clock a reception was given in the Minuet room of Hotel Rogge. Aides were Miss Mary Beth Bohn and Miss Mary Margaret Cornett.
Out-of-town guests included Stephen Tonsor, Jerseyville, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Edward Tonsor, Medora Ill. , Mrs. Gerald Jarvis, Calinville, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Tornes and family, Marietta, Mr. and Mrs. Ephraim Heil and family and Mrs. Margaret Heil, Caldwell, Mrs. Contretz (sic, Andrew) Cornett and daughters of Barnesville, and Mrs. F. E. Gerst, Caldwell.
For her going away costume, Mrs. Paulus had chosen chartreuse with corsage of red roses.
Upon their return the couple will reside at 1359 Eastman street. Mr. Paulus is with Bohn and Kern Plumbing company.
Before her marriage, Mrs. Paulus was honored at three parties. Mrs. McCarty entertained with a kitchen shower at her home in Adamsville, and Mrs. Fred L. Bohn and daughter, Miss Mary Beth, Sunset avenue were hostesses at a luncheon and linen shower in Clarendon hotel. Aunts of the bride, Mrs. Morse Archer and Mrs. Agnes Ronning, 716 Munson avenue and Miss Louise Heil, Euclid avenue entertained with a miscellaneous shower at the Munson avenue address.

Rose Anne Heil

Wedding announcement from page 7 of The Zanesville Times Recorder on 12 May 1953:

ROSE ANN HEIL MARRIED MONDAY AT ST. NICHOLAS

Miss Rose Ann Heil and Seaman Robert G. Downey were married at 10 o'clock yesterday morning in St. Nicholas Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Linus J. Drury reading the double-ring ceremony. Miss Barbara Heil, sister of the bride, was the maid of honor and bridesmaids were Miss Shirley Steed and Miss Jean Stiers. William Hempfling was the best man.
The bride's father, William J. Heil of 1608 Wheeling avenue, entertained with a breakfast at Paul's restaurant following the ceremony. In the afternoon, a reception was held in the Minuet Room of the Hotel Rogge. Aides were Mrs. James Mahaffey, Miss Mary Gray and Miss Lois Schafer.
Mrs. Downey is a graduate of Rosecrans high school and is employed by First National Bank. Mr. Downey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Downey of New Concord, is stationed in San Diego. He is a graduate of New Concord high and attended Muskingum college.
