Virgil H. Cunningham

Obituary:
HARRIETTSVILLE -- Virgil H. Cunningham, 93, of Harriettsville (Ohio 145, Lower Salem ) died Saturday evening (Dec. 23, 2000 ) at Heartland of Marietta.
He was born Dec. 10, 1907, in Bethel Township, Monroe County, to James Lynn and Jemima Springer Cunningham. He spent most of his life in the Harriettsville area and had been employed at Dragon Manufacturing Co. until his retirement. Cunningham served in the U. S. Army as a combat engineer during World War II in the European, African, Middle East Theater. He helped build bridges across the Rhine, Rohr and Elbe rivers and was awarded a bronze star. He was a member of the Harriettsville baseball team that was Noble County champs in 1931, 1932 and 1933. He was a member of Harriettsville United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 750 at Lowell. He had attended Lower Salem United Methodist Church. On Dec. 24, 1931, he married Marjorie Pauline Carnal, who survives with one son, James Cunningham of Whipple; one daughter, Faye Love and her husband, Ronald, of Harriettsville; 12 grandchildren, Marilyn Kehl and her husband, Dan, David Cunningham and his wife, Susan, Carolyn Bailey, Cindy Schott and her husband, Dan, Ryan Cunningham and his wife, Holly, Debra Haney and her husband, Roger, Mike Love and his wife, Carol, Doug Love and his wife, Cindy, Mitch Love and his wife, Lisa, Lisa Love, Landon Love and his wife, Charity, and Stacy Dimmerling and her husband, Chris; 21 great-grandchildren, Matthew Carpenter, Kala and Mark Kehl, Brandon, Derrick and Kent Cunningham, Chelsea Bailey, Chandler and Zachary Cunningham, Melissa and Christa Schott, Andrew and Shanaka Haney, Dustin Love, Alicia Love, Joshua Love, Leeanna Love, Jennifer Love, Joe and Kyle Love and Grace Dimmerling; a number of nieces and nephews; and four sisters-in-law, Mary Daniels of Silver Springs, Fla. , Mildred Franks of Barberton, Jean Carnell of Wakeman and Rosalie Anderson of Hillsboro, N.D. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Cunningham and Ernest R. "Dick " Cunningham; and five sisters, a sister who died in infancy, Clara Lee, Mae Ullman, Nola Wilson and Elsie Crum; one son, Richard E. Cunningham, who died Jan. 21, 1995; his daughter-in-law, Martha Ida Cunningham, who died Jan. 5, 1997; and one grandson, James Randall Cunningham. Services are at 1 p. m. Thursday at McClure-Schafer Funeral Home in Marietta. Burial is in Salem Township Cemetery with military rites. Friends may call until the hour of the services at the funeral home.


Marjorie Pauline Carnal

Obituary of Marjorie Carnal Cunningham:

LOWER SALEM — Marjorie P. Cunningham, 93, of Lower Salem died Saturday (June 24, 2006) at Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell. She was born March 8, 1913, in Elk Township, Noble County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Richard Edward and Anna Lucretia Andrews Carnal. She was a 1931 graduate of Harriettsville High School and was employed for 30 years as the head housekeeper for Marietta College. She was a member of the former Harriettsville United Methodist Church until the flood of 1998, after which she transferred her membership to the Lower Salem United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Masterton Chapter 584 Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as past matron. Mrs. Cunningham loved to cook, quilt, and crochet. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Harland Cunningham, whom she married Dec. 24, 1931, and who died Dec. 23, 2000; two sons, Richard Edward and James Howard Cunningham; one daughter-in-law, Martha Ida Cunnningham; one son-in-law, Ronald L. Love; two grandsons, Randy Cunningham and Aaron Tate Love; one sister, Blanche Carnal; and three brothers, Lewis, James, and Glen Carnal. Surviving are a daughter, Faye Love of Lower Salem; one daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Cunningham of Pinehurst; two sisters, Mrs. Mark (Mary) Daniels of Lower Salem and Mildred M. Franks of Barberton; one sister-in-law, Rosalie Anderson of Hillsboro, N.D.; 12 grandchildren, Dave Cunningham of Mineral Ridge, Marilyn Kehl of Beverly, Carolyn Bailey of St. Marys, W.Va., Cindy Schott of Whipple, Ryan Cunningham of Newport, Debra Haney of Lewisville, Mitch Love of Florence, S.C., Michael Love, Douglas Love, Lisa Love, Landon Love, and Stacy Love, all of Lower Salem; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, and one great-great-grandchild to be born. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, where the service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will follow at Salem Township Cemetery, Lower Salem. Mary L. Weinstock

Mary L. Erb's obituary appeared in The Marietta Times newspaper on November 6, 2006 WHIPPLE ? Mary Lou Erb, 72, of Stanleyville Road, Whipple, died at her home at 9:30 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 4, 2006). She was born in Washington County on March 3, 1934, a daughter of Ina Weinstock. She was married to Jacob Christian Erb on May 14, 1955. Mary Lou was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Church, had been employed at Airolite and Marietta College food service, was a member of Whipple Grange, Fearing Township Volunteer Fire Department, and the Daughters of America. She is survived by one daughter and three sons, Joyce (Donn) Erb-Appleman of Glenn Dale, Md., Christian (Diane) Erb of Whipple, Joseph (Jill) Erb of Marengo, Ohio, and Mark (Melissa) Erb of Marietta. She is also survived by grandchildren, Jonathan and Emily Appleman, Jacob, Justin, Hannah and Ben Erb, Amanda, Sara Jo Erb, Jessica and Katilin Lamb; two great-grandchildren; four brothers, David L. Erb, Dale Erb, John Erb, Ronald Erb; three sisters, Imogene Tidd, Ruth Morris, Bonnie Williams; two sisters-in-law, Christena Van Fosson and Beverly Erb; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Jacob, she was preceded in death by her mother; one daughter, Gayla Diane Erb; and two brothers, James R. Erb and Gary S. Erb. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Evangelical Church with Pastor Steven Dennis officiating. Burial will be in Lynch Cemetery. Richard Dale Hayes

Richard “Dick” Dale Hayes, age 52, of Caldwell, died Saturday evening, (August 6, 2005) at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
He was born April 21, 1953, in Caldwell a son of the late Earl & Ruth (Gleason) Hayes.
His hobbies included hunting, farming, tractor & horse pulls. He was an employee of Crock Construction for over 15 years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by son Ricky Hayes and one brother. Surviving are two sons Dale & Rocky Hayes both of Caldwell. Four daughters Charity (David) Bonar of Sharon, Crystal Hayes of Caldwell, Chasity Hayes & Rodney Mincks of Lowell, Christina Hayes of Caldwell. Grandchildren Trey & Caeley Mincks, Chase Lucas, Teiara Saling, Paxtyn Bonar and Trevor Hayes. Former wife June Hayes of Caldwell. Also surviving are two brothers Tom (Marilyn) Hayes of Grove City and Jack (Shirley) Hayes of Caldwell. Five sisters Mary Clark, Hazel (Jim) Fogle, Mable (Joe) Schott all of Caldwell, Nancy (Jim) Wells of Belle Valley and Linda Hayes of Arizona. Also survived by several nieces and nephews, and special friend, Judy Gibbs of Caldwell.
Friends will be received from 2 to 9 pm Tuesday (August 9, 2005) at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, Ohio, where funeral Services will be held at 1 pm Wednesday (August 10, 2005)in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Slay officiating. Burial will follow in Ogle’s Ridge Cemetery near Middleburg.
