In 1850, Wantle (55) and Mary (53) Burkhart owned a farm worth $600 in Seneca Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. Son John (11) lived with them. John did not attend school. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to William Foreman and Peter Mets.

At the time of the 1920 census Robert and Catherine Meintel (both 25) and their son Robert (2 yrs 9 mos) were renters in the home owned and occupied by John and Margaret Witzberger. (These may have been Catherine's parents.) Robert Sr. worked as a roller in a tin mill. All the Meintels were born in West Virginia, as were Robert Sr.'s parents. Catherine's parents were natives of Ohio.
The marriage of Catherine Witzberger and Robert Meintel is speculation based on the 1920 census which shows a married woman named Catherine Meintel and her family living in the same house as John Witzberger. In 1900, 34 year old Chas. Witsberger owned a mortgaged house in Wheeling, West Virginia with his wife Katherine (33) and children Clara (11), Bertah (9), Walter (5), and Oscar (2). The two oldest children attended school. The Witsbergers had been married for 14 years, and four of their six children were living at the time of the census. Charles was employed as an annealer at a rolling mill.
