Edna Philomena Brooks

Obituary (exact source unknown, provided by Betty Hartley):
Edna P. Brooks, 69, a resident of 518 Oakland Park Avenue, Columbus, formerly
of Woodsfield, died Wednesday afternoon at her home. She was born at Woodsfield,
August 21, 1916, daughter of the late Leo and Catherine Weisend Brooks. She was a
Catholic and a retired employee of the Columbus Depot.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Hugh (Marie) Bott of Woodsfield; three brothers, Roman
Brooks of Silver Springs, Md., Paul Brooks of Woodsfield and Frank Brooks of Dayton;
six nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, E. Joseph Brooks
and a sister Helen V. Roh.
Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield 1 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Sylvester’s Catholic
Church, Woodsfield, with the Rev. George Adams, the celebrant. Burial will follow in the
church cemetery. Rosary services will be conducted at 8:45 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

LEO JOHN BROOKS

Sebastian Brooks 1850-1929 came to New York July 1861 from Silz,Germany. In New York, he married Kathryn Stenyel 1849-1931 who came fromBerkheat, Germany. They came to a farm north of Woodsfield where theyraised nine children.

1. John Brooks, 1874-1875 born in New York, buried in St. John'sCemetery, Miltonsburg. 2. Minnie Brooks 1876-1968 married (1) CharlesSchumacher, 2 children and (2) Andy Kress lived in Pittsburgh. 3.George Brooks 1877-1950 coal miner, married Katherine Meager lived inShadyside. 4. Charles Brooks 1879-1971 farmer, married Rosetta Collins,seven children. 5. William Brooks 1881-1955 oil field worker marriedTheresa Burkhart, 6. Henry Brooks 1883-1956 oil pumper, married RosaRausch, six children. 7. Leo J. Brooks 1885---1961 oil field worker,married Kathryn Weisend, seven children. 8. Fred Brooks, 1887-1961married Harriet Dillon, four children. 9. Clara Brooks 1893-1969 marriedGeorge Nauer, a maintenance engineer, lived in Pittsburgh, five children.

The following is a more detailed history of (7) Leo John Brooks andKathryn Weisend Brooks. Leo and Kathryn lived at 204 Center Street,Woodsfield. Their children are:

1. Marie K. Brooks,. 1913 married 1942 Hugh L. Bott 1912. They haveone child Helen Marie Bott 1945 married 1969 John McGinnis 1940, a OSUgraduate in ceramic engineering. Helen and John works and lives inLaurens, South Carolina. Hugh and Marie lives at 135 North Main,Woodsfield. Hugh, a retired optometrist, likes to travel and has beenworking on the family history, part of which are in the Monroe CountyLibrary; Marie quits, crochets, knits and other hobbies.

2. Edna P. Brooks, 1916-1986, secretary, lived in Columbs, Ohio.

3. Roman L. Brooks, 1918 Annapolis Naval Academy graduate was on theWest Virginia at Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941, served in the pacific inWWII.

4. Paul A. Brooks, 1920-1988 served in the tank corps. In World War IIin Italy, France and Germany. After the war he worked in Canton untilretiring to his farm in Cook Hollow. He married Evelyn Hartman.

5. Frank N. Brooks, 1921 served in the Pacific as an airplane mechanicin World War II. After the war he worked at Wright Air Force Field inDayton as a mechanic and helped with experiments for the astronauts.Married Betty Wahl 1924 while working at Dayton in 1947, is retired andliving in Dayton.

6. Helen V. Brooks, 1924-1976, nurse married Robert Rohr. Had threechildren. Lynn lives and works in Cincinnati, Mark is city manager atWashington Court House, Ohio, Samantha OSU graduate in Psychology, livesin Columbs, Ohio.

7. Joseph Brooks, 1927-1971 served in the Navy in World War II in thePacific. Married Ann Garret in 1948, manager of a grocery in Woodsfielduntil his death, have four children. Joan married Dwight Brannon,children Lori Ring and Doug; Rebecca married Carey Bott, have Corey andCasey; Monica married Wm. Long, have Joey and Amey Marie; Charles JosephBrooks lives at home. Brooks, Sebastian

Brooks, Sebastian, was born in Siltz, Germany, February 4, 1850, andpassed away at his home on Center Street, Sunday morning, April 21, 1929at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 17 days.
He was united in marriage to Miss Katherine Stenyel and to this union were born nine children. One child preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his aged companion, eight children as follows; Mrs. Minnie Schumacher, of Pittsburgh,Pa.; Mrs. George Nauer, ofthe home; George, of Shadyside; Fred, of Wooster; Leo, Henry, William and Charles , of Woodsfield; also twenty-eight grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren; besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at St. Sylvester's Church on Tuesday, April23, conducted by Rev. Gilbert Mehler. Interment was made in the churchcemetery.

In 1945, Leo Schumacher was Monroe County Commissioner.


Barbara T. Weisend

Barbara Weisend Schumacker lived in Woodsfield at the time of his mother's death in 1946.


Alice Schumacher

Alice Schumacher entered the convent as Sister Evelyn Ann. She was living in Manitowoc, Wisconsin in 2004-2008.


Ambrose Leo Schumacher

Obituary:
County Commissioner and Mrs. Leo Schumacher received a telegram from the
War Department Tuesday afternoon that their son, Marine Pvt. Ambrose Schumacher,
age 22, had been killed in action on Iwo Jima March 3. The family had received a letter
written by him on February 28.
Schumacher enlisted in the Marines on March 21, 1944 and left for overseas in Decem-
ber. He was graduated from Woodsfield High School in 1940.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by five brothers and four sisters. Two brothers
are in the service, Cpl. Lawrence Schumacher in Germany and Cpl. Charles Schumacher in
the Philippine Islands. A sister is also in the service, a Cadet Nurse training at North Wheeling
Hospital, Wheeling, WV.
A Requiem Mass will be held at St. Sylvester's Church at a date to be arranged.


Joseph Isadore Weisend

In 1930, Joseph I. Weisend (41) and his wife Erma (33) owned a home worth $550 at 1032 East Broad St. in Louisville, Nimishillin Twp., Stark County, Ohio. Living with them were their five children Leo J.. (11), Helen B. (9)., Kenneth J. (7), William E. (4 yrs 5 mos) and Arlene F. (2 yrs 4 mos.). The oldest three children attended school. Joseph Weisend was a self-employed retail dealer in farm machinery and coal.


Erma M. Comfort

Erma and her parents were born in Ohio, according to the 1930 census.


Theodore Weisend

Records conflict on month of birth. The 1900 census says Jun 1880, but the 1880 census (which was taken in June of that year) says he was four months old on 01 Jun 1880, which would put his birthday in February.

Theodore Weisend is not listed as a survivng sibling in the 1954 obituary of his sister, Isabelle Weisend Schumacher.


Simon Tilton Kuhn

In 1910, 34 year old farmer Simon Kuhn owned a farm in Seneca Twp., Monroe County, Ohio where he lived with his wife of five years, Clara (26) and children Thelma (2) and Clarence (1). Simon's farm was located next to that of John Kuhn (probably his father) in the census. Simon was a partner in a saw mill.

SUMMERFIELD - Mrs. Nick Wiesend, Mrs. Simon Kuhn, Mrs. Alex
Burkhart, Mrs. John Kuhn, and Mrs. Joseph Kuhn were recent shoppers
in Summerfield.

At the time of the 1930 census, Simon (53) and Clara (49) Kuhn owned a farm in Seneca Twp. where they lived with their two children, Thelma (22) and Clarence (20). Simon's brothers Joe and John lived a few doors away.


Clara Mary Weisend

Obituary:
LEWISVILLE - Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Kuhn, 71, of
Lewisville will be held at 9:30 o’clock Tuesday morning at St.
Joseph’s Catholic church at Burkhart with burial in Chapel Hill
cemetery. Mrs. Kuhn died Sunday [12 Aug 1956] and the body
has been removed to the Brubach funeral home at Summerfield.

No matching death certificate found. There is a death certificate for a 27 year old woman named Birtha Baker (15 Dec 1891 - 16 Nov 1918) who died in Malaga Twp., Monroe County, but she is a married woman who was a daughter of Charles Allen.
