W. Walter Retzer

Nellie's married name in the 1920 census is Retzer, the same as her mother's maiden name. According to the census, Nellie's children's father was born in Pennsylvania.

W. Walter Retzer, aged 36 years, a prominent merchant of Hickory, died at five o'clock Sunday morning, February 25, 1917, following a brief illness due to a nervous breakdown. Though he had been indisposed for several days he continued to look after his business until Friday night, when he was forced to take to his bed. His condition rapidly became critical and death followed inside thirty-six hours. Mr. Retzer was born near McConnells Mill on February 21, 1881, and was a son of Charles and Mary Retzer, his mother surviving. He was identified with his father in the general mercantile business at Hickory, and upon the death of his father about one year ago he took complete charge. On December 27, 1911, Mr. Retzer was married to Miss Nellie Bosold of Caldwell county, Ohio, who survives with two children, Helen and W. Walter. Besides his mother the following brothers and sisters survive; Charles, Ralph, Roy, Clyde, Lawrence, Florence and Mary Retzer, all of Hickory. Mr. Retzer was a member of Richard Vaux Lodge No. 454, F&AM of Burgettstown, and of the IOOF lodge of Avella. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Presbyterian Church. In politics he was a Republican. A Masonic funeral was held Tuesday afternoon in the Mt. Pleasant United Presbyterian church, conducted by the Rev. Charles Stunkard. Interment was in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery


Nellie J. Bosold

In 1920, Nellie Retzer -- age 30 and a widow -- rented a portion of the house in which her landlord, widower Irving Hart (76), also lived in Mount Pleasant Twp., Washington County, Pennsylvania. With her lived her two children, Helen E. (7) and William (3 yrs 6 mos); and Nellie's sister 18 year old unmarried Caroline Bosold. Helen attended school. Nellie's occupation is "keeper" of a boarding house that she owns. (It does not appear to be the house that she lives in.)


George Amos

In 1930, 41 year old George Amos lived with his wife Nellie (40) and Nellie's children by her first marriage, Helen Petzer [Retzer] (17) and Walter Petzer[Retzer] (13), in a home the owned (value $6000) in Mount Pleasant, Washington County, Pennsylvania. Also living with them and identified as sister was Neva Bosold (5). According to the census data, George was first married at the age of 31 and Nellie at the age of 22. George worked as a public school teacher and Nellie as a clerk in a hardware store. Helen and Walter attended school. eorge, Helen and Walter were born in Pennsylvania, Nellie and Neva were born in Ohio. The family owned a radio set.


Nellie J. Bosold

William Robert Bosold

In 1910, 15 year old William Bosold lived with his widowed father, step-mopther and siblings in Macksburg Village, Washington Co., OH. He did not attend school that year, nor was he employed.

In 1920, 25 year old telegraph operator William R. Bosold lived in a house that he owned in Caldwell, Olive Twp., Noble County with his 21 year old wife Grace.

At the time of the 1930 census, William (35) and Grace (32) Bosold owned a home worth $3000 at 1021 Fairground St. in Caldwell Ohio. William was employed as a station agent for the railroad.

The obituary of William R. Bosold was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 29 Apr 1936:
WILLIAM BOSOLD FORMER CALDWELL RESIDENT, DEAD
Was for Many Years Employed in Pennsylvania Railway Office
CALDWELL, O., April 28 - Relatives here have been
notified of the death of William R. Bosold, formerly of
Caldwell, which occurred in a sanitorium in Akron,
Tuesday morning [28 Apr 1936] at 12:30 o’clock follow-
ing an illness of more than a year’s duration.
He was born at Macksburg, the son of Leonard and
Kathryn Retzer Bosold and graduated from the Macks-
burg high school.
For a number of years he was employed in the local
office of the Pennsylvania Railroad Co., until he was
promoted to Akron a few years ago. He was a mem-
ber of the M. E. church at Macksburg, and while in
Caldwell had served as the past master of the F. &
A. M. lodge, where he still held his membership.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Grace Racey Bosold
of the home; his father, Leonard Bosold, Newark, his
aged grandmother, Mrs. Malissa Retzer, Maple Heights;
and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Adda
Adams, East Sparta, O.; Mrs. Nellie Amos, Hickory, Pa.;
Wesley Bosold, Lakemore, O.; Mrs. Helen Dyer, Byes-
ville; Mrs. Carolyn Johns, Massillon; five half-brothers
and sisters, Morris, Roy, Homer, and Marie Bosold,
Newark, and Marie Bosold, Hickory, Pa.
Mrs. Nettie Tilton of South Olive; Mrs. Anna Steven-
son, Oklahoma, and L. L., Retzer, Caldwell are aunts
and uncle of the deceased.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at
1 o’clock from the First M. E. church, Caldwell, with the
local Masonic order and Rev. A. B. Mercer in charge.
Interment will be made in Olive cemetery.

William Bosold's death certiciate states that he had a left nephrectomy (removal of the left kidney) in January 1935. The reason for the operation was not given. Death certificate informant was Arneta Heiler of 66 Catawba Ave., Akron.


Grace Racey

The 1938-1938 City Directory for Akron, Barberton and Cuyahoga Falls lists Grace Bosold's home address as 72 E. York. Also at that address is a Mrs. Mary Bosold, operator of the Charm B Shoppe.

Caroline E. Bosold

In 1920, 18 year old unmarried Caroline Bosold lived with her widowed sister's faimily in Mt. Pleasant Twp., Washington Co., Pennsylvania. Caroline was employed as a public school teacher and was still attending school herself.


Samuel B. Racey

CRITICALLY ILL
CALDWELL -- Samuel B. Racey, 78, retired school teacher, remains critically
ill at his home on Fairground stree. His three children, Mrs. Grace Bosold, Akron;
Donald Racey, Battle Creek, Mich.; and Mrs. Linley Blake, Caldwell, have been
called to the home.


Homer E. Bosold

Homer Bosold's obituary appeared in The Columbus (OH) Dispatch newspaper on October 14, 2006. FRAZEYSBURG – Funeral services for Homer E. Bosold,
89, of Frazeysburg, Ohio, will be at 11:00am Monday, Oct-
ober 16, 2006 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil-Orr &
Chute Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Nichols officiating.
Burial will be in Perryton Cemetery. Mr. Bosold died Friday
morning, October 13, 2006 at his home. Born August 10, 1917 in Macksburg, Ohio, he was the
son of the late Leonard H. and Phoebe J. (Barnhart) Bosold.
He lived in the Licking County area before entering the Army
during World War II. He retired in 1975 as a safety director
with the government Defense Construction Supply Center.
His job took him to Washington, DC, Newark, New Jersey,
St. Louis, Missouri and Columbus, Ohio. He was a member
of the Perryton United Methodist Church, the Licking Valley
Lions Club and he was a Lions Eye Bank Trustee for District
13K. He was also a member of Wakatomika Post #6193,
VFW in Frazeysburg; AARP Chapter 3494 and a longtime
member and volunteer at the Wilds in Zanesville. He was
known to children of all ages as Santa Claus, The Clown
and other characters. Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Irene D. (Bedeski) Bosold,
whom he married April 19, 1947; two daughters, Karen
(Dwight) Landis and Jan Bosold, both of Columbus, Ohio;
seven grandchildren, Shelley (Mark) Gleason of Redwood
City, California, Jeremy (Donna) Landis of Pataskala, Ohio,
Michael (Breana) Landis of Springfield, Ohio, Patrick (Rian)
Landis of Columbus, David (Robbie) Geary of Goodlettsville,
Tennessee, Brian (Connie) Geary of Lancaster, Ohio and
Robyn (Robert) Armstrong of Blacklick, Ohio; six great grand-
children; a sister, Neva (Robert) Riggle of Washington,
Pennsylvania; very special friends, Edmund and Jane Rice
of Frazeysburg; several nieces and nephews; and many very
wonderful friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three
brothers, Roy, Maurice and William Bosold and a sister, Marie
Bishop. Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm Sunday, October
15, 2006 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral
Home with the Licking Valley Lions Club conducting services at

Robert McKee Peeples

Robert Mckee Peeples, age 89 Years, of Sauk City, WI, formerly of Slidell, LA, died on Thursday, November 6, 2003 at Harbor House in Baraboo, WI. He was born on April 8, 1914 in Stanley, Wisconsin, The son of the late William and Anna (Grothe) Peeples. Robert graduated from Marquette University in 1936. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Bosold on July 19, 1941. He was employed as an electrical engineer for Allis Chalmers for 47 years, traveling over the United States and Europe, before retiring in 1983 as chief engineer. He had been a resident of Slidell, LA since 1973 until recently moving to the Sauk City area.
He is survived by: his wife, Kathleen of Sauk City, WI; 5 children: William (Ardyce) Peeples of Santa Barbara, CA, Michael (Linda) Peeples of Sauk City, WI, Judy (Gene) Ranson of Black River Falls, WI, Mary Ann (Jim) Wander of Bradenton, Florida and Robert (Dale) Peeples of Baton Rouge, LA; 9 grandchildren: Cale, Colin, Mikael, Melissa, Melanie, Jennifer, Ann Marie, Jamie and Danny; and 2 great-grandchildren: Kemmer and Archer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and 2 sisters.
A funeral service will be held at Hooverson Funeral Home, Sauk City, WI at 2:00 P.M. On Monday, November 10, 2003 with Pastor Robert Rieke officiating. Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service. Interment will take place in Thorpe, Wisconsin at a later date.
