SPIRIT OF DEMOCRACY, Woodsfield, Ohio, 22 Feb 1991 - Vol 148, No. 8,FAMILY RESEARCH in MONROE COUNTY, CATHARINE FOREAKER FEDORCHAKE, Pg 220:

The other Burkhart family on the ship's list was GEORGE
BURKHART, age 40, and a blot on the page obliterates the name
of his wife and first child who was ages 38 and 17. His children on
the ship were Joseph 15, Elisabeth 13, Catharlne 11, David 5, and
George 1.

About 1960 I found a tombstone at the St. John's Catholic
cemetery at Miltonsburg for Magdalena Paul, frau von George
Burkhart born Feb. 5, 1807 and died March 28, 1850. I never
could fit this George into my Burkhart family and often wondered
just who he was. The 1850 census for him in Malaga township
shows that George is family No. 186 ape 53, born in Germany and
no wife, but the following children: David 17, George 10, David
Lewis 7 (Ludwig in German) and Aroa 5, so his wife hid died in
early part of 1850. The census was taken on Oct. 24, 1850. So
Joseph, Elisabeth and the 1st child on the list whose name can not
be read, were probably married or dead by 1850.

According to church records from St. John's Catholic Church
which one of the priests allowed me to copy about 1965 shows the
famlly of this George: George Burkahrt born 10 Sept., 1797; wife,
Magdalena Paul, b. 5 Feb., 1807, and their children:
Frederick James (this is the name unreadable on the ship's list)
born Sept.1822,
Joseph b. 23 Mar. 1825,
Elisabeth b., 1 April, 1827 - according to other informtion she
married Geroge Michael Weisent (see my Vol IX, Page 71)
Catharlne, b. 15 Oct., 1829, died 4 Feb. 1849,
David b 18 July, 1834,
George b. Oct. 13, 1839,
Louis b. 12 Mar. 1842,
Anna Marie b. 10 June, 1845.

In the marriages of these church records I also found this Item:
21 June, 1850-Joseph Burkhart married Frances Paulus - the
witnesses were George Burkhart and D. Paulus.

According to Hardesty's Historical Hand Atlas, Martin
Burkhart and his wife Elisabeth (Sheed) or Schied came to
America In 1840. They had a dau. CHRISTINA, who was, born in
Bruckweiler, Dahn province July 26, 1823 and she married Joseph
Baker who was born in Schoneau in 1823 (Sometimes the German
equivalent of Baker is Becker). See my columns in March 1983 for
more Burkhart records, including naturalization records for these
and more Burkharts.

==============================================
From Lynn Coburger:
There is some confusion about the wives of Georg Burkhart (1797-1868). Researcher Charlie Burkhardt states that Georg had three wives. His first wife was Magdelena Kling, mother of four or five children. The second wife, with whom Georg emigrated to America, was Magdelena Paul. She was the mother of five or six children. The third wife, later in life, was Elizabeth Burkhard. Researcher Betty Hartley has only two wives for Georg Burkhart: Magdelena Paul and Elizabeth Burkhard.
