James J. Lang

Sources are incomplete on date of birth. Researcher Jim Hohman has "29 Sep" (no year). Internet sources such as www.zabasearch.com give "Sep 1917" (no date). Combining these two sources gives a date of 29 Sep 1917. (Note that this is also his wife's date of birth, according to her death certificate and the Social Security Death Index.) James' obituary gives 21 Sep 1917 as his date of birth.

Sources conflict on date of birth:
21 Sep 1917 -- researcher Jim Hohman
29 Sep 1917 -- Social Security Death Index, death certificate

Joseph Edward Lang

In 1920, 27 year old farmer Joseph Lang and his wife Mary (25) owned a mortgaged farm in Watertown, Washington Co., Ohio where they lived with their children James J. (2 yrs, 2 mos), Walter W. (1 yr 7 mos) and Alice (< 1 mo). Everyone in the household was a native of Ohio, as were their parents. The adjacent farm belonged to Henry J. Schott.

At the time of the 1930 census, J. E. Lang (37) and his wife Mary (35) still owned a farm in Watertown. Living with them were their children James (12), Walter (11), Alice (10), Vincent (8), Harold (6), Grace (4 yrs 11 mos), Delbert (3 yrs 11 mos), Junior (2 yrs 6 mos), and Bernard (8 mos). The oldest five children attended school. The Lang family did not own a radio set. Adjacent farms were owned by Frank Schaad and Henry Schott.

Mary Arnold

Sources conflict on surname. Obituary of daughter Alice states that her mother's maiden name was Meiser. Obituary of son James gives his mother's maiden name as Arnold. It is possible that Joseph Lang had two wives named Mary, but the first three children in the family (James, Walter, and Alice) were each born about a year apart. It is believed that Alice's obituary is incorrect; Meiser was her mother-in-law's maiden name.

Dawn Marie Lang

Dawn Lang was a resident of Columbus, Ohio at the time of her death.
