Vincent B. Gulling

In 1920, 17 year old Maurice Gulling lived with his parents and younger siblings on the family farm in Louisville, Nimishillin Twp., Stark Co., Ohio. He was employed as a day laborer.


Hugh Lewis Bott

Newspaper clipping (date unknown) from Betty Hartley:
Hugh Bott, aged about 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Bott, was painfully injured
at his home east of Woodsfield about 5:00 o'clock Tuesday evening when he was attacked
by an enraged bull.
Hugh was attempting to put the animal in the barn and when it attacked him, he hit it on
the head with a club. This made the animal all the more angry and it tossed High in the air,
throwing him against a building. He received a compound fracture of the left leg just below
the knee, the bones penetrating the flesh.


Marie Katherine Brooks

Obituary (from Betty Hartley):
Marie K. Bott, 135 North Main St., Woodsfield, died Saturday, Jan 31, 1998 at
her home. She was born July 16, 1913, in Woodsfield, a daughter of the late Leo John
and Catherine Johanna Weisend Brooks. She was a former linotype operator at the
Monroe County Beacon in Woodsfield from 1931-1945; a member of St. Sylvester
Catholic Church, Woodsfield, the Catholic Women's Club and the Auxiliary of the Ohio
State Optometric Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
two sisters, Edna Brooks and Helen Brooks Rohr; two brothers, Joe Brooks and Paul
Brooks and a nephew.
Surviving are her husband Hugh L. Bott;a daughter, Mrs. John (Helen) McGinnis of
Laurens, SC; two brothers, Roman L. Brooks of Silver Spring, MD. and Frank N. Brooks
of Dayton; six nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, today from 2 to 9 p.m.
Funeral lirurgy with Mass will be celebrated Tuesday 15 11 a.m. in St. Sylvester Catholic
Church, Woodsfield, with Monsignor Thomas C. Petronek the celebrant. Burial follows in St.
Sylvester Catholic Church Cemetery, Woodsfield. Vigil services will be held at 8:45 p.m. today
at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Sylvester Central School,
Woodsfield.
