Henry John Henricks

Named was changed from Heinrich Heinrichs to Henry Henricks at Ellis Island.


Matilda Elizabeth Kuhn

Abstracted from Jo-Anne Wright's website, originally from Barbara Hendricks Miles:

When Matilda was two years old, her parents west with their nine children. Peter They lived in California and Oregon until finally in 1883 they came to Klickitat Co. Washington. Here her parents had two more children.

Matilda grew up in a sparsely-settled section of the state and sometimes large droves of Indians passed through. Smaller groups often stopped and were welcomed and fed. Land settlers also shared the Kuhn hospitality. Matilda attended the Kuhn school 1884-1891. She then traveled off to boarding school 1891-1893. She qualified for teaching and taught school.

In 1899 she filed for a homestead in the Six Prong country (in Klickitat County). She packed supplies on horseback and spent long nights with sounds of coyotes and wind howling around the shack. She often told of the beauty of the country and the good neighbors get togethers such as quilting bees and basket socials.

In 1906 she was married to Henry Henricks (1872-1923) from Essen Germany. After two years on the homestead they purchased a farm in The Dalles, Wasco County, Oregon. They had six children. In later years Matilda made her home with her daughter Mary. After Mary's death, Matilda lived with her daughter Barbara. Matilda passed away March 7, 1975 at age 97.


Edward Cahill

In 1930, Edward Cahill (54) owned a house worth $900 in Precinct #4 of Klickitat County, Washington. He lived there with his wife Anna (50) and children Martin (15), Catherine (13), and Robert (10). The children all attended school. The family did not own a radio set. Edward was a sheep hearder on a ranch. His parents were born in Ireland.


James Benjamin Kuhn

In 1930, James B. Kuhn (42) owned a farm in Gaunt, Klickitat Co., Washington where he lived with his wife Mary (35) and sons Roy (14), John (8) and Wayne (2 yrs 8 mos.). Roy and John attended school. The family did not own a radio set.


Mary M.

According to the 1930 census, Mary's father was French Canadian. Her mother was born in Pennsulvania.
