Translating Websites

Home Up

To translate a German-language website, go to the Google search engine. In the “search” window, enter the URL for the page you want to translate.

 (For example, http://bruchweiler-baerenbach.de .)

Click “Google Search.”

Once the search results are displayed, click the words “Translate this page” next to the title of the page.

A translated version of the page will be displayed.  (Be patient, it may take a minute or two if you have a dial-up connection.)

It is often helpful to have two browser windows open – one with the original German text, and one with the translated text – so that you can switch back and forth between them.  The translation process attempts to translate everything… including proper nouns.  In the case of this page, the surname “Zwick” translates into the word “pinch” and the town of Bärenbach is translated to “hereditary era book.”
